Elliptical issues

I've been struggling with shin splints on and off since I started running, and I am hypermobile, so also have rather dodgy knees.
I wondered if anyone else has found that this might be being exacerbated by the elliptical? I didn't feel i could run yesterday, so put in a half hour on the elliptical last night, and today both my knees and my shin are actually worse than I think they'd have been had I run.

I tried the eliptical and it also hurt my knees. I tried it several times and can't stay on it more than 2 minutes!0

With dodgy knees and feet that overpronate, I have found the elliptical to be wonderful and an effective respite from pounding the pavement. However, it greatly depends on the elliptical. My favorite is the Startrac at my gym. It has no wheel in track guiding mechanism to force your stride as some do, rather it uses a free-floating stride that is very comfortable. I guess the point is that you should try several before giving up on the elliptical.0
