Women ?? about cycles and running?

I have been exercising since November now. I decided to venture out past the treadmill and elliptical and start hitting the pavement instead. I have been running every other day for a week. Prior to this week I'd go for a run outside once a week or so.

My period decided to grace me with its presence an entire week early... I am wondering, could taking up running have affected my cycle like that?!

I don't take/use birth control (hubby had a vasectomy 3 1/2 years ago), so that isn't even a factor in my mind.

It's just odd - I'm usually like clockwork, every 27 days, this time, it was 21 days. Wondered if it has happened to anyone else.
I'm not under any stress really.

Could it be because of weight loss, too? I have hit 50 pounds lost. My heaviest weight never affected my cycle, surprisingly, but I'm wondering if the loss of weight would?

Thanks everyone. :) (I hope I posted this in the proper forum)
