I'm making lasagna tonight. I have heard of people putting cottage cheese in place of ricotta cheese... I was going to try it tonight just because it has half the calories but I'm nervous. Who puts cottage cheese in their lasagna? Is it as good as ricotta?

Ive done it before using an ole WW recipe/ It was fine. I would suggest draining it first if you can as it holds a lot more water than ricotta plus adding salt / pepper/ oregano/basil to it...then layer it into the lasagna.

My mom did it, i didn't even know something called ricotta existed till...like a year ago.

Draining it sounds like a good plan.

My mom always made it with cottage cheese (probably as a cost saving effort). I like it! I say go for it...

I always use cottage cheese but I try to find a less moist product. I love it in lasagna. Let me know how it turns out. Joann

I've seen recipes with both. You can get light / fat free ricotta, you know. :)

I use both, depending on what I have on hand and can't tell the difference. Just drain it a little.

    Enjoy!

I use cottage cheese and firm tofu! I mix them together with my mixer and put italian seasoning in it. I actually made this at Christmas and took it home to family. I videod what I was doing with my phone then took a video of them eating it talking about how wonderful it was. Then posted them both to facebook. PRICELESS!

I often use cottage cheese in lasagna. I'd suggest mixing low fat cottage cheese (slightly drained) with a low fat cream cheese..

But, Yes, you can substitute it without any taste/quality lowering effects on your end result lasagna!!

Edit: but, I do not have fine "italian born" taste buds to know there is supposed to be a difference.!

I always use cottage cheese as well. I drain it, mix it with chopped spincah and a couple eggs and it is awesome! Good Luck!
