Each person has to find their own path. What works for me will not have the same results for someone else. While there's a lot of science involved in weight loss, I really think the human body is a work of art, and there's an element of mystery and individuality that is oftentimes overlooked. As long as my body is made of bones, blood, fat, water and muscle... and not canvas, paint, or carved out of stone... I'll tend to lean more towards the science side of things.
And as long as my body is my own I'll do whatever the hell I want with it. No need to be a sarcastic jerk... And yeah, go ahead and have a few bottles...0 -
whether this trainer is talking horse poop or not, it does make me think. all the women in my family, myself included are pear shaped (theres another argument, genetics) my aunty is a hairdresser, on her feet constantly and she is a uk 6 on top but her thighs are massive, it really gets her down bless her, i think she looks fab and i am so jealous of her arms, but no matter what diet or exercise regime she does her top gets smaller and nothing from her bottom half.
saying that, when i was happy with my weight (2008) i was still pear shaped, toned and slim (7st9) and personally i dont ever want to lose that, i like having curves, i just want to be a smaller version, lol, and bigger boobs would be nice, but we are the shapes we are, just keeping it slim and toned is all we can do i think x
If you are pear-shaped, you will always have curves because your body wants you to put fat on your bottom half. The issue is whether you want to engage in exercise that might, depending on your body, exaggerate your bottom-heaviness even after you have reached your ideal weight.0 -
I am pear shape. The more I do cardio and anything that works my legs, the larger they get. I've gained muscle weight from that in the past few months. eeekkkkkk I am beginning to be a big pear! However, I know it's imperative to keep my knees strong so I keep at it...reluctantly.0

This is supposed to be a "support" site, but what it actually is most of the time is a place for self-righteous jerks to come and preach that their way is the ONLY way...it must be such a burden to be perfect and all-knowing. Nevermind that there are countless paths to achieving fitness. If you don't do it their way, you're just wasting your time. The OP is new, but she'll likely learn the kind of "support" she will be provided on these forums...0

Shoot me, why don't you, because deadlifts and squats are leaning out my legs. I never said it was the only way. Starving yourself and not using your leg muscles is another "way." Walking yourself silly is another "way."
Fear that I'm going to bulk up my lower half got my no where. Squatting & deadlifting heavy weight burned fat off my *kitten* & thighs... and is giving me strong leg muscles... that appear leaner because I'm burning fat off them. At this point in my lifting, I couldn't be happier.
When people come in spouting the fear that working your lower body means that, for some special snowflakes, there's a propensity for bulking... well, where does you nuanced experience, language and understanding leave you out to dry there? It goes both ways.0 -
i HAVE to put my two cents in... this theory that women "bulk" from lifting is complete, huey. we don't have enough testosterone, period. end of story. unless you are "juicing" this is not going to happen. i lift, hard. ingest average 150 gr of protein a day, which the majority of MFP women do not do, and even if you do, lifting hard for a few months or even a year is NOT going to make you bulk. what makes you "look" like you are bulking, is lifting with too many calories, therefore, you have nice lean hard muscle underneath your already existing fat.0
