I woke up a little late today, and I'm going out in the afternoon, so I decided to skip the commute time it takes to get back and forth to the gym, and simply run outside.
I've never really tried running seriously outside before (of my free will) so this felt a little different from the treadmill. It was hard to tell how fast I was running (the nike plus doesn't record speed the same way the treadmill does), so my goal was to not stop.
And for the whole hour, thats exactly what I did.

I came home, plugged in my ipod, and found out I had actual run a 10k in 53min o___o My first 10k!
Albeit a tad bit slow..
But still a 10k

I want to join a race<3 wow. I used to hate running like death.

How has MFP's experience with races been? : D Share.

(also just realized I posted in fitness and exercise instead of success.. My bad; Sorry)

How do you like your Nike plus? My daughter got one and can't get it to work.

Congrats on the running. I am working my way up to a 5K right now.

I have found that I really like Charity races. Find a cause that interest you and go. It is great motivation to keep going.

It's a little pricey for what it can do for you. I got it as a prize though so I'm making the most of it.
Its records a larger calorie burn and distance than the treadmill I use. So I'm not sure which one is correct. Neither does it have any way to gage your heart rate.

But besides this I find it a huge motivator for when I'm running outside. I really don't think I would push myself to run outside without it : P The website that it uses to record your times and what not also has training programs, goals you can set for yourself, and my favourite-- a little character you can customize that reflects how well you're running.
    : P

I like it. But I wouldn't pay for it. :3

Oh. And on the not working part... it didn't really start up for me either when I got it. I had to reset the sensor I think.. There's a troubleshoot section in the booklet it comes with, and short of that maybe try the website for help?

And thank you~ Good luck on your 5k!

Is it just me or is it a little difficult to find good races in the area you live?
I guess its just a matter of a little research;; But I usually only hear of two major ones around here. And they're usually so huge and has such a turnout of people that its a little intimidating.

Still, I'll have to look into that. :3 Thank you

Congrats on the run, that's awesome! I'm working my way up to a 5K, and man is it slow. I've found that most of the races occur at the same time. We had a bunch about a month ago and then a bunch in the fall coming up. Not many in between though. Good luck finding one. There are a lot of websites you can go to find them, also check with any athletic stores in the area, they might know.

I have nike + and I love it. I paid for it a few years ago and now I recently paid for it again because my sensor died. I love it that much. I don't think I'd be able to run without it. You can find out your current pace, how far you've gone and how much time you've run with just the push of a button. And the website is great motivation!

Good job, that is awesome! :flowerforyou: I ususally dn't run any races, which I should, but I will usually run 4-6 miles. I also love running on this trail around a lake by my house which is like 6 miles and i find it so much fun:huh: , which is very odd!

I'd say do the races whenever you can. I definitely wouldn't worry about it being intimidating. With a large crowd there's going to be tons of fast people & tons of slow people too, so you're bound to just blend in no matter what.

But it's exhilerating when you finish. There's always some sort of celebration or hype at the end (& free food) :drinker: Plus you'll probably find that you'll get your best times in a race just cuz you get up for it more. I've always enjoyed doing a race & couldn't wait for the next one, and i'm no serious runner myself. Go for it.

53 minutes is NOT slow to run 10K! I've been running for 2.5 years and can barely do 5K in 40!

I go to www.active.com to find races. In my area there are a ton. I am currently at 3 miles and am working up to do a 1/2 marathon in December in Tucson, AZ.

I agree. I used to run seriously when I was in college. Just for the fun of it we would find a new one in a new area every weekend. Ranging from 5K to 10K. Then we would go explore the area.
