Am I doing something wrong?

I had GBP ON 11/21/11. The scale has not budged in week it keeps flucuating between 210 & 212. I am eating high protein low carb. Exercising at least 30 minutes a day. I am doing zumba 2 times a week. Why am I not losing the weight?

You need to eat more. You're eating what my 7 year old eats to maintain 48 pounds. I eat 1500+ and lose 1+ pounds a week.

You need to eat more. Eating less than 1200 calories will put your body into "starvation" mode which will cause you to not metabolize your food intake as quick, resulting in no weight loss. I've notice with myself that sometimes going over in calories occasionally will make me lose weight quicker.

since your doctor recommended the amount you are eating, You should follow your doctors orders. People with GBP are not able to eat like people who have not had stomach surgery. When I had my gastric bypass, my stomach pouch was the size of the surgeons thumb. No way could I have eaten 1200 calories. I had mine 18 years ago and it was very much of a success. I lost from 330 lbs to 160. You do only what your doctor and the nutritionist tell you to do.

I agree with Peggy - your surgery is still fairly new, so I would not up your calories based on the advice of people on a website. If you hadn't had the GBP I'd be in total agreement with them. But in your case, I would touch base with your doctor and share your concerns and get your advice there.
  • You got GBP at 212 lbs or did you lose some weight first? It could be a plataeu...have you talked to your doctor? I wouldn't ask for advise on here since you had surgery.

even if you've had a GBP, you can still manage 1200 calories or more in a day. You just have to have SMALL meals, so SNACK SNACK SNACK. Also, peanut butter is great for this. It's not huge and not difficult to digest.

Eat more... just in small doses. High calorie foods. They exist and aren't all sugar and crap.

Her surgeon toldher to eat less than 1200 calories a day. He is her surgeon and knows what he is doing. How can you (unless you are an MD give her advice to the contrary. She is doing what her surgeon told her to do. As a fellow GPB patient, I understand the need to follow her doctor's advice and not follow the advice of people on this web site. After all, you could be opening up a case for some liabilities there.

Not everyone needs 1200 calories a day. He gave her specific calorie guides as well as carbohydrate guides. She needs to follow his direction only.

And the question here is not whether she can bump it up to 1200 calories because other people on MFP think she should but it is more the need to follow the guidelines set out by her surgeon
