I don't like so could I do this with fat free sour cream or cream cheese??? I wonder what the calorie count would be. Any ideas??

    Memaw

8 tbsp is 1/2 cup. Let me look that up
Okay, I looked it up. Depending on the sour cream it would be any where from 80-120 cal for 1/2 cup. I guess that wouldn't be too bad, I could do 1/4 cup and some veggies and still be satisfied. Thanks for the tip.

You will not know its cottage cheese
The sour cream is great too you will just not have as much protien and a few more calories.

but I think either way its a great way to eat fresh raw veggies

Good luck and let me know how it works for:happy:

Okay, I LOVE ranch dip and veggies so I just had to run out and buy some cottage cheese today and, let me tell you, I LOVE THIS VERSION!!! It really is so good! The cottage cheese just gets all smooth so it's not a weird consistency at all! Nobody will ever know it's not sour cream! In fact, I'm going to use this method when I have get togethers that include veggie trays so that I know that it's good for me and nobody else will be the wiser! Thanks so much for the tip! It'd also be good as a salad dressing and has way fewer calories and no fat compared to the reduced fat ranch dressings out there! It could even be thinned out with a little fat free milk if needed! Thanks again!

ooo i love that idea of it for a salad dressing....I have to say I'm not a fan of fat free ranch dressings...they ah gag me....some weird taste....but I don't want all the cals of the full ranch and lite is up there too...I'm gonna try this w/ the fat free cottage cheese and mix....yum! and thanks!....so do you know what the sodium is by any chance? thanks!

I have to run off to work, but i will be back home soon and will post my ranch salad dressing and southwest ranch dressing.
I am happy you liked it and what a great way to get all that protien and calcium from the cottage cheese.

    Have a great day everyone:happy:

The sodium is kind of high with the ranch mix and the cottage cheese. I know there are some reduced sodium cottage cheeses out there but I'm not sure if there are reduced sodium fat free ones. I'm guessing they add the sodium to make the fat freeness not taste so bad. That's where it gets hard with trying to eat "healthier" foods. Low fat/fat free items tend to have so much more salt. I really should be watching my sodiim intake, myself, but it's so hard with all of the convenient foods out there, ie frozen "healthy" meals, fat free foods, reduced fat cheeses, etc. I try to cook for myself and portion, then freeze meals for food on the go to replace pre-packaged frozen meals as much as possible, but that's not always possible. They even add salt to canned tomato products! There's no reason for it. I know that they have the no salt added kinds but they tend to be more expensive and I'm on a budget. Okay, this post is about dip, not sodim...sorry! :)

ha ha ....no I totally know what you mean....I didn't even think I ate a lot of it until I joined here and took a gander at my reports and was like ....BOINK!:noway: so lately I'm really watching it...trying to stay under 2000 mgs....

alittle sodium here and there isn't too bad...but man one day I had a roll from au bon pain and OMG 1100 mgs of sodium....IN BREAD?????!!!!!!! sigh...

anyway thanks for your input....I'm gonna check the market to see what I can figure out...I may just go ahead and make it and just eat it sparingly....like I should w/ all foods....sigh LOL
    hugs and thanks!
