knee injury and need advice

So I currently have a knee injury(a tear in my right, meniscus) and I wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions on how I can exercise without injuring it anymore. I know I should be taking special therapy and might need surgery but because of my situation I cant do that now. I can walk about 15 minutes but then it start to hurt, should I put ice on it and keep walking? Thank you for taking your time

Not a doctor at all so just my opinion:
Try to do things that won't put your body pressure on it like swimming. Try to do exercises that focus on upper body like boxing (30 day shred is where I got that from nothing else), or things that you can do without putting much pressure on it like situps. If it really hurts then you shouldn't push it since it is injured. Listen to your body.

Many resistance exercised you can do for the upper body while your lower heals. Dips, some weight machines etcetera are all good. Rest your knee!

I had a similar injury not too long ago- I tore my ACL in my right knee and had to have a knee reconstruction. I wouldn't do anything on it if it hurts- if you feel pain, your body is sending messages to your brain saying that something is wrong, and that you need to stop. I had to keep off my leg for 1 month, then do no strenuous activities for another 3 months after that- not even walking. I was going to the physio though, and getting massages and doing easy exercises that he gave me, as well as plenty of ice and anti- inflammatories to keep the swelling down. Once I waited three months I started to walk every day- about 3km in 30 minutes- until the physio and I were both happy with the progress. I then started light jogging and resistance exercises- my knee is now stronger than it ever was!!!
Do yourself a favour though, and don't try and be a hero- if it hurts, then stop!!!! The more you stress the injury, the higher chance you have of causing a long term injury, and the slower the recovery will be- talk to someone that knows what they're on about.

if you go to collagevideo.com, they have a workout series called "sit and be fit". I got it for my stepmother because she has degenerative arthritis. You could also get some weights and work on upper body.

Thank you Jordant107, I appreciate the feed back. The only problem is that i've had this injury for almost 6 years so I know I.have waited to long so I believe thats why it hurts more when I walk. I have two little ones so resting is a no no for me, but I will try to stay of my legs or stop putting so much weight because the last thing I need is a slow recovery. Once again thank you

I have the same problem right now but it is my left knee. I actually had surgery and after couldn't work for a year, never got therapy which I found out was key until it was too late. I finally got therapy (after begging the doctor) and got back to work slowly. Now, the damn thing is torn again and I find it hard to walk long distances or even stand for long periods of time. So I walk for only 15 minutes everyday and take breaks throughout my day when doing stuff around the house. Tmrw I am going to the gym and walk for 15 and ride the sit down bike for 15 depending on the pain. I am hoping to build strength in my legs but have idea how. I can't get surgery again as I have no insurance. So I will do as much as I can on the upper body and do small steps with the lower body. I use the Wii Fit to strengthen and that seems to help. Good luck with your injury and surgery.
