Hi all,

I've been reading through hundreds of threads since last week and I just want to thank you all for my "aha" moment.

I have been a weightwatchers member for almost a year - the past 3-6 months I've been losing and gaining the same 2kgs no matter what I changed.

So after joining the gym and seeing a personal trainer in hopes of upping the exercise he suggested that actually I might consider giving up weightwatchers :noway: Scary thought, I've been doing this nearly a year with little weightloss (I don't have much to lose) but it's what I know. So I came on here because I wanted to still be accountable for the foods I put into my body. I was quite shocked when I logged my normal ww meals for the day and it ended up under 1200 cals....here I thought - well I "should" be losing weight I hardly eat anything :grumble: so after many days of reading threads on here and learning about BMR I think I've come to the conclusion that I have probably been starving myself for the past year :embarassed:

So now I know more about BMR I'm going to eat more in the hopes of losing the last couple of kgs once and for all. I'm expecting a gain (and my PT told me that I should expect a gain) but I'm wondering how long it took once people started eating to their BMR +exercise to see the scales move downwards again?? My PT told me not to focus on what I weigh and focus on building muscle but old habits and all that jazz :blushing:

So anyway that was a long spiel, but the gist of it is I am happy I found this place

Thank you for giving me the freedom to eat more food

YAY! I had that problem when I did WW years ago. I ate "what I wanted" but I was still "always hungry". The points added up, but the nutrition didn't. I hope you have great success here! Welcome! :flowerforyou:

I had the same problem with weight watchers. Being able to eat ANYTHING and counting it as points...well that was hard for me. I would sacrifice all other meals to eat my 20 points in an order of chili-cheese fries. This really helps me keep everything in mind.

I've always eaten well on WW as we mostly eat whole foods etc but because of my weight and height I was only on 19pts a day which in reality isn't alot (and they kept suggesting I go down to 18 which actually made me gain weight  ) . So now I'm going to try allow myself some "luxuries" nuts and seeds being the biggest thing I'm adding back in. On WW they are really high in points oh and peanut butter which I've not had in months.
  • Hello, I just went through the same exact thing. I joined MFP about 5 weeks ago and after the first 3 days found out I had starving myself for the past year or so and could not lose any weight. I would lose 2-3 pounds and then gain back 5, over and over.

The good news is that since I've joined MFP and have been adding about 800 calories or so to my daily meals, I have actually lost 4 pounds. That's almost a pound a week. It still absolutely AMAZES me that I am losing a pound a week by eating MORE.

I would suggest that you gradually increase your calories, maybe about 300 a day until you reach what you should be eating. That way your metabolism has a chance to catch up with you. Good Luck and enjoy the extra cals.
