Eating Clean question

Maybe I should know this by now, but what exactly is eating clean? Does it just mean nothing processed? If so, would greek yogurt and cottage cheese be counted as processed? I really need help with clarification. Thanks !

Check out Tosca Reno and the Eat Clean Diet. There's lot of information on the internet about it. Explains alot and offers both online grocery lists and books that you can get to assist in the transition. It's a great resource for that and recipes! Plus they have an online board that can allow you to chat with other people either making the transition or who already eat clean! Hope that helps!

I don't have a hardcore definition, but my idea of eating cleaner is fresh foods (fruits and vegatables), whole grains, minimal processed or artificial foods. I try to eat things that have ingredients I can understand. So if the yogurt says "non fat milk, sugar, cultures" I will eat it. If it lists a bunch of artificial sweetners, colors, dyes and chemicals, I pass for a better option. If I can get something organic, I will buy that over non-organic, but my goal is to just eat cleaner or as clean as I can, not clean.

Ask 10 people, get 10 answers. It's whatever you think it is. Some people will tell you cottage cheese and greek yogurt are clean, others will say they're not.

I agree its almost impossible to not ever eat anything that is processed. Just try to eat as little prepackaged or processed items as you can.
  • There is a great magazine I get called Clean Eating. The food is fantastic in there and very healthy. Clean eating is definitely little to no processed foods. If you have to go in to the interior of the grocery store (follow the outside perimeter usually!) then the item would probably not be considered "clean". Good luck!

It simply means eating foods as close to their natural state.

Look at the ingredient list. If it contains things you don't recognize, it's processed. For example, the cottage cheese in my fridge lists crap like guar gum, locust bean gum, xanthan gum, artifical color, polysorbate 80, among others. In other words, it's not clean. It contains many artifical things and preservatives.

But the "natural" peanut butter in my fridge lists only peanuts and salt. That's clean!
