I went on gumtree and got really expensive one for £50!! Lots of people buy fitness stuff with the best intentions then never use it! so many treadmills and things on there! x

Why don't you run outside? You're not going to run a 10k race on a treadmill, so why train on one?

i have 3young kids all under 4 and find it hard getting time to leave them to go running, i already go out to zumba 2 evenings a week and my OH gets face on we dont spend enough time together because of all exercise, i wanted a treadmill has my 2 youngest sleep for 2 hours in the afternoon while my eldest is at school so i could train then
  • I would try to run outside as much as possible. Running a 10k on the treadmill is a lot different than running it outside!

I am doing the 5k one in six weeks in Belfast and have never ran before.

I signed up with 4 month to go and loads of time to practice etc. Then I fell down the stairs and fractured my ankle and then when it was finally healed I damaged my calf muscles. Not had a good time.

Anyway, I'm in the gym five times a week practicing in the treadmill now.

Do what you can to help you. If the reason you want the treadmill is to track times/distance then why not download an app called runkeeper? It tracks your route through GPS, your distance, speed, incline, time etc and has a website to go with it.

EDIT: Your last post about the children was put up as I was typing. LoL.

I do the same. I work out after the 2 yr old goes to bed and the older 2 can entertain themselves. I would suggest though, getting out once a week if possible. I just started running outside on Friday and really liked it!

couldn't get your link to work but I think it's this one : http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerms/3020465.htm

It's not motorised like the ones you get in gyms and so I don't have any experience of running on this type but I would say that nothing will prepare you better for a race than running outside. It is possible to train using treadmills but it is generally accepted that running outside is a bit harder than on a treadmill*. So, my recommendation would be to train outside and save the £70.

*some people find the treadmill a little harder mentally because you don't have any scenery.

Good on you for signing up for a RFL and good luck with the training.

Sorry I replied before I saw this.

If outside is out of the question I think you are limited to picking up a cheap motorised on ebay/freecycle etc or going for the cheap and cheerful option.

do you have a wii? They have a pretty decent run game on wii fit that you could do at home... that way your foot is striking closer to the way it would be outside.

It's a nice idea but I can't see a Wii training program giving the experience, or muscle training required to run a 10k.

I think you need to remind your OH that the exercise will benefit him too if you are feeling better about yourself ;)

If you have to use treadmill because of the kids, try and run outside at least once a week up to an hour it will help you loads on race day x
