Need some motivation

For the last month or so I have yo-yo'd around the same 3 pounds and it's driving me insane. The accomplishment of losing 40 pounds just keeps taunting me....right now I have lost 39 and last week I had a loss too, but three or four weeks ago I was at 39 and then gained three pounds, lost two, gained two back, etc. I want out of this little cycle!

I know why I've been stuck....all during my vacation I ate horribly. Since then I have done pretty good but if I get off track, I figure ah well, I screwed up.....might as well screw up some more!

I NEED to be diligent this weekend, and know that if I am going to treat myself, that it has to END with that one treat and not keep going, and if I am going to have a treat, I need to work my butt off to compensate. Ugh, just want to break free from this yo-yo!

you might need to re-think how you "treat" yourself. Remember that food is fuel and not a reward.

This is how I do try to reward myself - it is juvenile, but it works. I bought those cheap foil star stickers (like you used to get in kindergarten  ) and for erery day I am within my limits on food and get some form of exercise, I give myself a star for that day. On Saturday, if the whole week is full of stars, I get a smiley face. 2 solid weeks of smiley faces and I get to go to the spa! I love facials and pedicures and that is what works to motivate me.

What is something that you love to do that's JUST FOR YOU and that you see as a splurge? A favorite store you like to shop in? Getting a new book? Try focusing on that as a treat.

I wish you luck - it isn't easy changing your focus, but I'm sure you can do it. It only takes 21 days to form a new habit :flowerforyou:

I love the spa motivation! That would make me feel so much better than a candy bar!!! Whenever I want to have a food "treat" I log it into my food diary. Seeing how that 2 minutes of chocolate enjoyment will screw up my whole day allows me to try logging healthier snacks and see how they fit in. Sometimes I get so caught up in logging and looking at different foods that I decide I'm not hungry anymore! (I'm easily distracted sometimes!) I just broke a new record for the longest amount of time having chocolate in my house without gorging myself. I've had little debbie peanut butter bars here for over a month and I haven't eaten even one. The previous record was a little over an hour! Good luck with coming up with a new reward system! You can do it!!!

Take back control of your diet. Rule your food intake with an iron fist! Say NO  to birthday parties and other eating-for-enjoyment occasions. Become temporarily antisocial to well-meaning friends: They can live without your company while you do this. Simplify your diet & track it with this website, which is extremely helpful! Walk a lot. Good Luck!

Amy, I know just how you feel. I had the same problem when I had lost 19 pounds trying to catch that elusive 20. I finally got there and now I'm bouncing around trying to make 25. I do the same thing you described... I take one bite of something I shouldn't (or one too many bites of anything) and then it's a big ol' free for all. I have gotten REALLY bad about finishing my meal and munching whatever my 2-yr-old left on her plate. It's never much but it starts a bad cycle.

I'm doing better this week (making up for the last two weeks) and focusing each day on keeping to my planned meals right down to the last calorie. One day at a time, ya know? Tomorrow is my weekly weigh-in, so we'll see how it goes.

Good luck to you, Amy!
