I am thinking about getting a Kindle Fire but I wonder how well it would work to read a book while outside in the bright sun.

Thanks for any comments, feedback etc.

Works the same as a laptop or phone or anything with that type of screen. Difficult to read. If you want to do some reading in that environment, you would want a regular Kindle.

I worship my Kindle Fire...BUT..It's not easy to see in the bright sun. I tried this yesterday and was very disppointed.

Edited to add: I was disppointed but was planning on taking paperbacks/magazines to the beach, ect..any way not the Kindle.

I love my kindle fire but it SUCKS for reading in the sun/outside. I like to read at night though so it's great for that. Also have the netflix app and watch movies a fair amount.

Sucks in the sun. Even in my Jeep with tinted windows it's hard to see the screen. Otherwise I love it!

I have a hard time reading it in the sun or even outside. But I haven't tried turning down the brightness or anything. But other than that, I haven't had any problems with it and I Love it!!!

It is tolerable if you turn the brightness, but you're screwed in direct sunlight. I also hated the launcher (the big icons drove me crazy), so I replaced that...you don't even need to root it.

My kindle fire sits on the shelf, I still use my normal kindle every day. The fire is fun enough, and Amazon Prime is neato, but using it outside is pretty useless IMO.

If you are using it for reading, I recommend the original kindle.

I have an old school kindle with the eink technology and it works AWESOME in the sun. Looks like a real page.

I hope you're not reading while driving!

Nope! Just when I'm waiting in the car for my son to get out of school.
