MFP wants to "change my goals"?

I weigh in on Tuesdays, and after I entered my weight today, MFP suggested I "change my goals". I clicked "Yes", but I had already had a custom goal anyway, so I don't think it had an effect. Then I decided to go to a "Guided" goal, and it made my calorie intake a bit lower--do you think I should reset my goal to what I had it? One of the things I've been trying to do is eat at my BMR--and it's been hard for me so far, being just a little under or a little over most days.

I also wonder about my activity level. I work 5 days a week and am on my feet and walking most of those days.

My goals are customized as well. When you go to change your goals the guided way it resets EVERYTHING! I still haven't re tweaked my macros ratios from the last time it was reset... It's frustrating.

I pretty much try to eat above on my calories, carbs, fats, and proteins. I just try to make sure they are somewhat good carbs and fats.

If what you are doing is working then why change it? :-)

when you lose weight your BMR will go down as well, so you should adjust your custom goal as well.

It usually asks if you want to do this after a 10lbs loss, I just click no.

I think it's only effected my BMR by about 200-300 calories. So I just left it alone.

that is a huge difference. That is the size of my entire deficit each day. You BMR should be effected by about 10 cals for every lb lost.

Well, if I was only eating just above my goal before, do you think I still need to change it?

Whether you let MFP do it automatically or tweak your custom goals yourself, it's still a good reminder to adjust them over time. If you don't, your BMR may go down (as a result of your lost weight) to the point where you're no longer at a deficit.

I'm amazed that MFP seems to always want me to eat below my BMR. I can't let them make suggestions! :P

MFP doesn't "want" you to do anything. It's a calculator. The output is a result of the input you gave it. If it gives you a number that's below your BMR, it's because you put in a rate of loss that's too aggressive.

When I use the guided suggestions, I was going for 1 lb/week. But now that I upped my calories from what was suggested, it's projecting .9 lbs/week.

Can I just ask, those of you who have changed your macros - what do you base this one? My macros seem very carb-heavy but I don't know much about how to distribute them so they may well be healthy.

I modified the Zone diet... Which is 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat. to 35/35/30. I find I do better with an equal distribution of protein and carbs...

The Zone diet is a good place for a lot of people to start.

    I wanted a low carb profile - 10% carbs, 25% protein, 65% fat.

Thanks for that, I've amended my goals now as my carbs were at 65% which seemed a bit high. I'll see how I get on with this!
