Giving message boards a try

Hi. I am a huge forum/board person for technology and gadgets, but never thought I would be posting on a forum just to "talk to people" especially about weight loss and the trials of it all. But here I am. I hope there are some folks here that will talk back. :-)
I'm 30 years old and have been big all of my life. I'm 6'1" and currently clocking in at 233 lbs. At my heaviest, I was 288 lbs, so I've lost about 55 lbs over 3 years. It's been a long ride, with points of doing well, then just holding weight, then gaining, then losing again. I'm currently at a losing point and hope this is the point I stay at for the duration. It's more important now than ever that I don't start the upward trend anymore.
After reaching a record low of right around 230 lbs, I began slowly gaining weight. First it started with regressing to my same old bad eating habits of eating out too much, making poor decisions on what to eat in the restaurants, and then eating way too much at any given meal. At first it didn't' have much effect, as I was working out a great deal for rehabbing my leg from a complicated reconstructive surgery. I was actually working out enough to still lose weight even though I wasn't eating properly at all. However, as my leg got better and the workouts reached a more normal level, the pounds, of course, starting adding on.
Last year I went through some emotionally taxing times as well as a series of medical problems. It was a tough year and I responded by not taking care of myself to get back on my program of diet and exercise. The lack of exercise along with eating poorly resulted in putting on the pounds again, gaining about 15 pounds over the course of the year. I was depressed and in denial and honestly, I can admit it now, just kind of didn't care because mentally I had just shut down. However, my medical issues now require that I care about my weight, both for myself and for the family I would like to be able to start one day.
So after getting myself out of my funk and depression, here I am now, trying to "get back on the wagon." After going through Jan-Mar and only losing 6 lbs despite doing what I though was pretty good with my diet compared to what I was doing when I lost 55 lbs, I decided I needed to go back to actually logging what I eat each day to see why I wasn't losing weight any faster. I wanted to use a site this go around that offered a mobile app and found this site.
So here I am. I'm down about 11 lbs since Jan, which puts me right around where I was when I fell off the wagon in late 2010. I'm posting because this time, my weight loss isn't just about wanting to lose weight for myself. It's also, and more importantly, about getting to a proper weight for my health and for the family I hope to one day be able to have.
Thanks for taking the time to read and I'm looking forward to participating on this board to help motivated and also help with getting motivation.

Welcome to MFP. You can add me.
I was always petite growing up and then I met my hubby in my late 20s and started being less active and eating out of control. By my early 30s I passed the 200lb mark. I tried losing weight myself and tried numerous weight loss programs but I never followed though to the end. My office had a health fair in the office and I attended at several kiosks. After doing some basic testing I was told that I was borderline obese. I wanted to cry. My family doctor has been encouaging me for several years to lose 30 to 40 lbs for health reasons but I didn't listen. Finally on March 1, 2012 I decided enough was enough. I signed up for Weightcare becasue I liked that I was able to eat my own food and that the dietitian would teach me how to eat my own cultural food on my daily caloric allowance. They introduced me to this program and I signed up right away. Well its been 6 weeks and I have lost 21lbs between attending at Weightcare and following the MFP program. There is no secret to my weightloss other than eating healthier, exercising and drinking my water. I log everything I eat regardless of whether not I will go over my daily calorie allowance. I make my profile and food diary public to my friends to that they can make suggestions when I am doing something incorrectly. After all we're all here for the same reason to lose weight, live a healthier lifestyle and build a new community of friends that understand our struggles. So regardless of the amount of weight you want to lose this is the right place to be to get the support you need to be successful in your journey. Again welcome and feel free to add me as a friend.0 -

@jbsangel....Good luck!!! You can do it!!! You give me inspiration because (no offense) there are other people going through a tougher time with their weight loss etc. than I am. I hope that doesnt sound bad but I really beat myself up when I have a lazy/bad day. My best friend is maybe 5 foot 4 and at her heaviest she was over 200 lbs. She lost over 50 lbs and has been the one to educate me on different things and motivate me to exercise and eat healthier. I start everyday with good intentions, try to make good food choices, and exercise. If for whatever reason I didn't make time for exercise or maybe I ate something I probably shouldn't have, I no longer stress about it. I was so consumed by what I had done wrong that I would stress more and in turn eat more!!! Now that my attitude about it all has changed, I am making more progress than ever before. I am 29, with 3 kids and life is pretty hectic so I have learned to take it one day at a time. :-D Good luck to you....0

Thanks to you all for the support. It's a long journey and certainly takes more time to lose the weight then it did to put it on! Nice to have people to go on the journey with.0

Hi feel free to add me. I am new to MFP too, my 2nd day infact. I need lots of encouragement on here.
I started my weight loss journey Aug 2010 at an all time high of 254lbs. Between Aug 2010 and April 2011 I lost 60lbs following the Slimming World diet and going to the gym 4-5 times a week.
12 months later I weigh 214lbs (a gain of 20lbs). In that time my marriage broke down and all exercise stopped. My diet has been a bit hit miss in that time too. It has taken me a while to get my head in the right place to continue my weight loss journey but as of yesterday I am in that place.
I have a holiday booked for mid August so I hope to lose around 25-32lbs between now and then which could take me down to 182lbs and depending how I feel when I get there maybe I will try to get to 168lbs. (Not been that weight since I was 21)
Good luck with your weight loss journey0 -
