Should I track work as exercise?

So, I have a quite an active job.
I work in retail, and am on my feet, speed walking around and lifting things all day.
Should I track this as exercise or not?
And if so, what should I enter it under?
I used the slowest walking one for a seven hour shift and burnt more calories than what I are for the day.
This couldn't be right, could it?

No, you should set your activity level to active or light active if you have not already. this was asked regarding your job when you signed up for MFP.0

No, you should set up your lifestyle as active in your profile/settings so that your calculated bmr is more accurate.0

no. adjust your activity level in your profile to lightly active or active even. this is something part of your daily routine that your body does get acustomed to.0

Exactly above. You should track exercise as exercise. Anything else is your daily routine.0

Because this is regular activity for you, I would suggest accounting for it in your set activity level. So, yours wouldn't be "sedentary" like mine is with a desk job.0

BMR will not change based on activity level TDEE will (calories burned from daily activity under the goals tab), as changing your activity level will give you a different multiplier that is applied to the same BMR.0 -
Nope, its your daily activity. When setting up your calorie goal, it takes into consideration how active your job is.
I work as a nurse, on my feet for 12 hours a day and don't track it. Only exercise i do track is the stuff i do outside of work.
Good luck :flowerforyou:0 -
I would not track this as exercise. Instead, make sure you have the correct setting in your normal daily activities. You can find this under the My Home tab under Goals.
When you set your goals, make sure you select either lightly active or active for your setting. I think it will depend on how physical your job is (i.e. more like a nurse or more like a mailman).0 -
The way MFP is set up you should be accounting for that in your profile settings under "Activity Level" Sounds to me like you should be set at "Active" similar to a waitress or mailman.
Once you have that set it automatically adjusts your needed calories, so do not add work as exercise.
Hope this makes sense.0 -
What do you have your activity level set as? If that is accurate, you don't need to log work as excercise. I thought I was lightly active because I am on my feet all day as a cook. But I was very hungry and stuck with weight loss. I played with my activity level, changed it to active. I get more calories, and am not so hungry and have lost again. Then I just log any excercise I do outside of that. Good Luck!0

I work in retail too and hardly ever have a restful moment but I don't track it as exercise, it's just my daily activity.0

Thanks guys. Checked my activity level and it is set to active.
Thanks again for all your advice!0 -
Nope just set your activity level to something more active and it will take into account your physically demanding work0
