Alright.. so I have been trying to figure out how to calculate how many pounds I will lose each week using my BRM number... and I think I finally have it!! If anyone can confirm this for me, I would really appreciate it.. I will use my numbers for example

I found my BRM using this: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

BMR (1902) x 1.2 (for sedentary) = 2284 <- Calories needed to maintain current weight

Maint number (2284) - calories left after exercise at end of day (1000) = 1284 <- daily calorie deficit

Daily deficit # (1284) x 7 (days in a week) = 8988 <-- weekly calorie deficit

Weekly deficit # (8988) divided by 3500 (calories in a pound) = 2.568 <-- lbs lost per week at current weekly deficit

Yah? or no?

    looks good

In full I assume it would be something like :-

    1902 * 1.2 = 2284

    2284 + 500 exercise = 2784

    food eaten = 1500

deficit = 1284 cals per day

Your daily deficit is the calories left at the end of the day. If I'm reading what you've written correctly, it looks like you're eating 1284 so that you have 1000 left at the end of the day. If that is the case, then 1000 is your deficit, not 1284. That would put your total weekly deficit at 7000 and your expected weightloss at 2 lbs per week.

ETA: Maintenance - Calories Consumed = Deficit

I think you have it the wrong way round

Total calorie expenditure - calories eaten = defict

If you have 1000 left, that is your deficit,

    1000 defict a day = 2lb a week.

Okay so if I eat 1174 in food and exercise for 102 calories burned, the net of calorie intake would be 1072... so my BMR of 2284-1072 = is 1212 do I use 1212 as my daily deficit? .. right?

    2284 for maintenance
    +102 exercise

    2386 expenditure

    - 1174 food

    = 1212 deficit

Yes, but are you going to eat the exact same number every day? Also 2284 is your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure i.e. maintenance), not your BMR. BMR is that first number you started with before multiplying for your activity level.

You need to eat net calories at or over your BMR, the deficit should be from your TDEE... if that makes sense

I just plugged my own numbers into the formula and came up with exactly what My Fitness Pal gave me for calorie intake to lose 1 pound a week. That is VERY reassuring actually. As far as exercise, I use calories burned to either add to the potential weight loss in that particular week or give myself a special "sweet" treat (like samoa girl scout cookie ice cream - yum!). I am diabetic so those special treats truly are special and hard earned. That stuff tastes SOOOOOO much better for some odd reason now. :)
