Ladies weight lifting

I don't belong to a gym or anything. I have a treadmill that I use 4-5 days a week. I also carry 5 pound weights when i'm on the treadmill. (I have 8 pounds as well.) My question is I would like to tone up my arms some. What can I do around the house or what can I use to do this with? Any ideas please!

I wouldn't run or walk with dbs.
You can do diamond pushups and dips off a chair for triceps, put the weights in one hand to start for bicep curls...you really need some heavier weights to do anything really effective for shoulders unless you have somewhere you can do pullups.0 -
to "tone" you want to keep losing body fat0

Craigslist... a weight set (If you have the room!)0

Do as many exercises as you can using only your body weight. A number of various pushups will help in that regard as tricep dips, as noted above. For shoulders do some decline pushups.0

and for heavier weights, get some water jugs!!0 -
Repetitive exercise even with low weights are highly beneficial.
If you hold the 5lb weights in each hand (palm up), directly even with your shoulder and bring them together straight armed over your head 50 times. You will work the under side of your arms.
You don't need heavy weight.

DIPSI off of anything! chair, steps, stool.
Push ups - wide, narrow, diamond, off the wall
My favorite is using a big thing of laundry detergent (I think its like 96 or 100oz? but the 50oz would work too)and pretend its a kettle bell. Google kettle bell exercises.0 -
Bump, I would like to know this myself.0

2nd all suggestions that use your bodyweight
5 and 8 lbs is not going to do much -- get heavier weights and get moving
Do not be afraid to lift heavy0 -

I use 5 and 8 pound dumbbells and I love my arms! They are toned but girly at the same time I do lots of the following twice a week:
upright rows
arnold press
military press
bicep curls
hammer curls
chest flies
shoulder flies
tricep kick backs
tricep dips
My shoulders and my biceps are awesome but I can't seem to make my tri's look nice. they're not flappy but they're not toned. they're definitely the hardest group to tone up
good luck!0 -
I have a personal trainer 4 days a week, try bench presses with weights or with the bar, that'll help. You can do dips too that'll work the arms as well0
