Ok I am trying to figure out if I need to work in a rest day here and there? I am doing the JM Shred in the morning, A cardio in the evening (Mainly Elliptical strider 45 minutes at a strong pace) and finally a brisk walk with the wife and dog in the evening of no less than a mile. I plan to possibly start the couch to 5k next week and replace some cardio days but for now I am a bit sore. Am I being a wuss or should I reduce some activity on some days? Nothing is really tired or sore save for my Quads. Those suckers burn. I just dont want to overdo it and cause injury in my pursuit of healthiness. I mean I did just start everything up actively 8 days ago. What do you folks here on MFP think?

I am almost gonna say that I am wuss. Hack it out and keep on the same routine because i am not doing anything to over the top and major.

Yes I would definitely take a rest day or two a week. Not only do you risk burning out quickly, but your body does need time to recover!

My thoughts exactly just needed some one to confirm them lol. I will do a simple walk this evening and hit the Shred hard in the a.m. I do not want to over do it.

I didnt think I needed rest days, b/c I always felt better when I was sore after I worked out... but your rest day doesnt have to be completely empty, You can do a little cardio or something. I have my schedule like this Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat (one hour workout every morning) Sun, Mon, Tue (rest days).. I spend sunday and monday at my bf's so normally we can find something to do-this week we went to the beach. and Tuesday was supposed to be completely rested, but I couldn't so I got me a few minutes on the treadmill worked in!

I always shrugged off rest days and kept going, until I had an injury, which had me laid up for a couple of weeks. To my surprise,I didnt lose strength but became stronger. Now Im taking rest days, and definitely resting between strength sessions, and my strength (and muscle) tone just keeps increasing.
