It is currently day 3 of the south beach diet....I've been having major cravings for carbs so I've literally been eating all day (SB approved foods) to combat it......

I feel like crap...weak, tired, stupid carb flu....

What can I do to help this pass?

How many carbs do you net for the day? I net about 50-75 and after first week then it was fine. Not sure if the first week of crappiness was the lower carbs or the meds I was put on. If it was the reduction in carbs it didn't last too long and now all is good for the past almost 6 months.

Remember: south beach isn't "low carb" per se. Just a sugar "detox" (not my word) and then good slow carbs. I never did south beach, but did use their approach to getting "off" sugars. Beans got me through it. That was 12 years ago. And I've never looked back.

Yeah I'm having major sugar withdrawals. I'd kill for a chocolate shake right now.

Make sure you are drinking enough water. You need to drink at least 64oz a day up to half your weight in oz. It really helps . Hang in there .It gets better.

I did South Beach several years ago (I eventually renamed it the "don't eat crap" diet -- it's really pretty sound philosophy). I used peanut butter (the natural, no-sugar sort) to get me through the first few weeks. Also, laughing cow cheese in mushroom caps is a fabulous savory snack.

Hang in there! It gets soooo much better!

Also make sure have enough sodium. Have cup of broth or a pickle(No sugar in). may also help.

And honestly... not everyone is going to do well on low carb.

    Just keep that in mind.

Yeah. I wish you the very best getting through it. I could never hack it. I cried for days the last time I tried and was so miserable, that my whole family was just like "eat an orange, please".

I've read about the broth. I'm at work right now so I can't get anything.....:( This is awful.

It's probably my fault. I went overboard the week before my diet started on carbs....and I think this is payback.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I wish I could just sleep this off.

Ha. I only did the "stop sugar" part, but just called it my "low crap diet". :-)
I learned a TON about food!

    I don't think I can in phase 1 yet. But it's a good idea for phase 2!

I'm currently doing the 17 day diet... which I guess you can say is very similar to a low carb diet. My 2nd day I had a terrible headache but now I'm doing fine getting about 80-100 carbs max per day.

    You go this!
  • First: I read this thread title and think to myself: "Hmmmm... another person going crazy this week on South Beach Diet" and realize when I see your pic (and then name) that it's the same person! LOL Same person, different place!

Increase your fats? Satiation from that tends to decrease sugar/simple carbs cravings.

Eat carbs? Eating low carb offers no metabolic advantage over traditional carb diets on a per calorie basis.

You can do it! Day 3 is always the worst for me when I am doing any kind of lower carb induction especially my first time. I lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks doing South beach and I didn't have much to lose to start with. I felt amazing by day 5 or 6. I didn't stick to that plan long term because I don't like low fat food.

I remember eating No Sugar added Fudgesicles with a TB of peanut butter slightly melted together in the microwave. Roasted chick peas are yummy too. There's tons of good recipes for induction. Eat eat eat.

I'm eating carbs...just no sugar/processed crap. Also since its in the first 2 weeks, no grains or fruit.

I've been eating a crap ton today to combat the cravings. I think I've just about conned my friend into bringing me cashews, chicken broth, and milk. I hope they help!!!

LOL i hope they help too, but it really really does get better. I am not doing south beach, but have before and have incorporated many of their meals, from stage 1, 2 and 3, into our regular meal rotation.

    Why punish yourself?
Eat a variety of food including some fruit or grainy bread, stay under your cals and you'll lose weight.

I'm not doing it to lose weight. I'm doing it to kick my carb addiction. Along with therapy.

Do you have a medical condition where this is necessary?
