Help me, please!

Hi everyone,

I really need everyone’s advice. About a week ago I went to the Hospital and found out that I had MRSA. They hospitalized me for 3 days. In that time I had surgery done to remove the problem that caused the MRSA. I was being pumped with Antibiotics 24 hours a day and also Dilaudid every 2 hours. The Dilaudid helped with the pain, but made me so damn hungry. I ate so much and gained! :( I was released from the hospital with Oxycodone and continued to eat! Something about pain medication makes me so hungry. I'm not really worried about this because I only have two pills left.

My main concerns are getting back on track and exercise substitutions. How do I get back on track and continue my weight loss? I feel so icky and depressed, honestly. Also my doctor ordered me not to exercise for two weeks or until I'm completely healed. Honestly, I couldn't if I wanted to. I'm still in a great deal of pain. How do I go about “staying active” with all of these limitations. I feel like a prisoner to my bedroom! :(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks y'all! :)

First of all, I am glad you are OK and getting better. How scary!

Second, don't worry about being active. You need to recover and heal your body first. Focus on eating well and staying within your calories. Once you feel physically better then you can focus on exercise again.

I dont know what your calorie intake is right now- but one way to lose the weight you have on you 1) is to not "starve yourself" by eating fewer calories than you were orignally, your body will only hold onto those calories and build fat bc of your revoery state its just trying to survive.

What I DO recommend, is upping your calories. If you haven't read anything about BMR or TDEE then please do! There is a good on here called "Eat more to lose weight" Its very eye opening and it has helped my pass my plateau! What I mean when I say this is eating more will not only help your body heal faster- but also up your metabolism so when you are stuck in bed, you will start to burn the weight you might have gained for ex I started eating 1440 calories a day, I now eat 1850 and I have lost (after 2 full weeks of eating this way now) roughly 3 pounds and have broken my plateau. your BMR is the calorie intake your body needs JUST to lay in bed all day and your organs to function. Since you are currently in this state- This will help you alot! My BMR is 1592 and I eat above that to lose weight.

So try researching those two and eating a little more to help your body out. Aside from that all I can say is stay below or at your deficit of your TDEE- 15% (you will learn what I am talking about in the group I mentioned!) But really- just eat more, just a healthy more.

but PLEASE just rest and get better. your body will thank you!!!

That sounds awful! Glad you're on the mend.

Like the first person wrote, don't overly concerned about being active, although if you can get around with little pain, I don't see why you can't walk for exercise (not like power walking or anything, just at a normal pace)... see how you feel first and don't stray too far just in case you feel ill. I have been walking in place inside my apartment. It sounds lame, but I actually have been breaking more of a sweat than when I walk at night and my calves have been killing me. Maybe that is something you'd be interested in trying.

As for food, just continue tracking what you are eating and try drinking more liquids. The drugs are making you feel hungry, but it's not always legitimate hunger. Try drinking a glass of water before eating, and if you're still hungry within 15-30 minutes or so, I'd say go for it and eat something. If you're craving something, just eat 1 serving - take the serving out of the food container (i.e. don't grab a bag of chips and eat out of the bag - too much temptation to continue eating after 1 serving).

I wish you a speedy recovery, and hopefully some of this advice will be useful. You can do it, girl. Don't get down on yourself for gaining weight, you getting MRSA is a huge deal and it's hard to keep up with a routine when you're that ill.
