resistane training newbie

I just got a bowflex pr1000 for my birthday!! I have never done any type of weight training and am looking for advice. Today I did some arm exercises 20# each side..(does that get recorded as 40??) How often should I do weight training? Is it best to do some cardio before and after? What about sets and reps? (Should I be going 1 set of 10 for each exercise then repeating or do 3 set of 10 for one exercise before going to the next?) Lol...I have no idea. Any advice/help appreciated
