Supplements?

People seem to be approaching me more in the gym since I'm actually showing signs of progress. They always ask, "What are you trying to do?" in which I reply with, "I'm happy with my size, just working on toning and tightening now." The very next question they always ask me is if I'm on any supplements. And when I say "No", I am then engrossed in a long conversation about where I need to go and what I need to get on. This has happened with four different men in the last 3 weeks.

So what's up with supplements? If I'm obviously making progress without them, why does everyone think I need them? And if there is actually something that will sort of bump up my progress, please share. Thanks!

I was big on weightlifting a few years ago before I got into college and got fat, and I was surrounded by male lifters using the latest and greatest, along with others who used nothing. Honestly, their gains were not different. I use(d) a protein powder after a heavy lifting session, and found that was enough. It was hard for me to get the dietary protein I needed without a shake when I was training for competition, and I still enjoy a protein shake after a good workout or with a meal. But honestly, you probably don't need any other supplements, and I'd say about 95% of them are junk.

I am a firm believer in them. I also believe that they are not created equal but that is another story. I feel that even eating healthy in today's world it is tough to get all the nutrients our bodies need. If you feel great and feel you do not want to take them and no issues then thats great and no one should tell you that you must take them. For me there are a few things that my family needs as I have seen the effects of them. One supplement I was able to take my 9 year old son off his ADHD meds and is doing great, also helping my hbp and the wife's stress.anxiety and ADD. The others helps us get what our foods lack. Not for everyone I guess but is for us.

    Hope this helps. :-)

They exist as their name implies to supplement all the nutrients you get from whole foods, for example certain BCAAs ( amino acids ) cannot be produced by your body so you need to get them from your diet and some people find it hard to get these through their normal eating habits so supplements are a great choice for them, same thing with protein, personally There is no way i can get the amount of protein i want per day without protein shakes plus they absorb faster then whole foods which makes it ideal around workout times.
