since i don;t have enough time to join a gym or do longer than a 40-60 mins workout a few times a week, i jog up and down the stairs for about 10 mins of my workout.

is this enough do you think? since i got back on this challenge to lose weight, i have lost more than what i ever have since starting in january 2009 so iv been doing something right these past few weeks.

also do sit ups burn many calories? eg. how many would 200 burn?

thanks

Try this site to figure how many calories you're burning for different stuff.

that depends on your definition of enough. Any exercise that works up a sweat is great! The more you can do safely the better. If 10 minutes on the stairs feels like a good workout, then it's good. If you can do 20 minutes and get even more work in and still feel ok, then that's better, but enough is sort of arbitrary, I mean, to me, that may not be, but for you it may be. The idea with cardio is to get your heart rate up about 30 to 40% higher then resting (even up to 50% more if you're a little more advanced). If you can do it for 10 minutes a day, great, if you can do it longer and add resistance stuff in too (stairs are a mild bodyweight resistance on top of the cardio) even better.

As to the situps, 1st) be careful with situps, it's easy to do them wrong, and they can hurt your back, if done right, they are a decent core workout (but they isolate the abdominals, better to do twisting and stabilization routines like planks that engage ALL the core muscles).
2nd) they aren't really for cardio, they are a small, slow twitch muscle group, and as such don't burn many calories, while it's fine to record the calories you do burn, you shouldn't need to do much more then 5 minutes of core work 2 to 3 times a week to keep your core strong and healthy, and thus you wouldn't realize much more then 25 to 40 calories per workout from them. Unless I forget that I'm recording durning my overall burn from cardio, I don't even add core calories in.

    Hi

I love using the stairs for a work out..I also do not belong to a gym
I use a treadmill at home, DVD's, weight and stairs
Yesterday I did a 35min work-out/cardio running up and down the stairs...I don't run straight up and down the entire time but stop half way....use 5 pound weights...
I'm drenched when I'm done...and can feel it in my legs the next day
