Guilt!!!

As a mother why does this overwhelming feeling of guilt come when you are doing something that’s for yourself?
I spent countless years focusing on others before myself. Never feeling guilty for neglecting myself, but my first 2 weeks on this journey to better me, I felt an overwhelming amount of guilt, for not spending the little bit of hours between coming home from work and bedtime for my daughter at 8pm. My house was neglected because I was too exhausted to worry about dishes, about dust, about toys scattered all over, mail pilling up, and school papers taken over my kitchen table, even too exhausted to worry about what my significant other had for dinner (just made something quick for my 6yr old).
I mean come on this body hadn’t moved this way in eons, and it was a shock to my system and to my family.
Now that I am 5 weeks into this I am here to say this too shall pass. My body is no longer in shock and I have energy when I leave the gym during the week (let’s not get to crazy I have enough to muster up doing dishes and making din din for my family)
I think it is all about finding a common ground and it will take time, but once you do you will be back into a routine, a new routine, but a routine that will work for you and your household.
So to all the moms out there who are trying to better themselves, which in turn will better their family, I Salute You!!

I so agree. I feel so bad coming home then leaving the kids, to go workout and so tired to want to clean up and do anything. I dont even know what to cook anymore because my kids so picky. I feel guilty sometime when the little one says can you play basketball with me when you come back from gym and then i am to busy to do it because I have to feed them, take a shower, get him showered and then you know it, its 8pm and time for bed. But like you said. Its ok to take at least 3 to 4 times a week to make yourself feel better. LETS STAY MOTIVATED LOL.0

It must be a mother thing, because my wife is the same way. I tell her that our kids are old enough to take care of themselves for an hour or two, but she feels guilty. I tell her that in the long run, the more she goes to the gym, the better it'll be for all of us. Maybe she needs to be a heartless bas#$* like me, because I'll be at the gym come heck or high water & if the kids can't get themselves food & beverage while I'm gone, then they can suffer, because it's just an excuse.0

I have a 10 month old and work 40 hours a week with a 30min commute. She goes to bed at 8 so I have been doing dinner, dishes, etc as soon as i get home (6ish). I try to get on the treadmill after she's in bed. Today I got up early (5:30a) and did my treadmill workout. It actually felt good to get up early and I am NOT a morning person, but I figure if I'm up at 6 anyway what's 30 minutes? Now, if I want to do anything this evening, its just extra! I'm just learning how good it feels to do something for me! Especially after a baby. I'll tell you what I tell myself everyday: YOU GOT THIS! (seriously say that to myself as I feel myself getting tired)0
