Work out in hospital or should I even worry about it?

This is my first time posting so I hope I'm in the right place. My 11 month old son is having major surgery in 2 weeks and we will be in the hospital for around a week. I've lost 26 lbs since January 1 and my husband and I are about to start our 5th week of P90x. We know we will not be able to keep up with the P90X schedule while we're in the hospital, but we want to do something to not lose momentum/motivation. Any ideas for exercise while we're there? Other than walking the halls?
On the other hand...should we even be concerned about it? Obviously my son's health is the most important thing and we would alternate times exercising so one of us is with him, or make sure a close family member was with him while we are gone. I know that the food options will not be ideal, my stress level will be through the roof, and for the most part we will be sitting around. Is it selfish to try to take time for ourselves that week?

Check out the hospital. Childrens hospital usually have a "family center" that includes a gym, and regular hospitals usually have a gym for cardiac rehab that families can use!
But don't feel guilty if you decide you'd rather stay with your child the whole time. It's up to how you, your child, and your partner feel. If you feel like it'd be best for your partner to stay with the child while you work out and vice verse, go for that. Whatever feels right for you! Each person/family is different!0 -
Do what you need to do to take care of yourself while you are there. Perhaps you and your husband can take turns leaving the hospital while your baby sleeps.
If you don't take care of momma, you can't take care of anyone else.
Good luck and god bless your son.0 -
Thanks all! Unfortunately the hospital doesn't have a gym. We may get there and realize working out is the last thing we want to do, but I can imagine that after the first few days when he is starting to recover it will be nice to have a little bit of an escape from it all.0

I don't see anything wrong with it seeing as exercise helps with stress. Go for a jog/speed walk maybe if you don't have any access to workout equipment.0

Nothing wrong with walking the hallways, or even walking around outisde the hospital if it's nice out. Just make sure you have a cell phone with you or something so you can stay in touch if need be. If it's a big enough hospital, I'm sure there are stairways you can walk/run up and down too. Nothing wrong with getting in a little exercise here and there. It will be a great stress reliever and make both of you feel better.0

First, you might need exercise as a stress reliever in the hospital. I often think clearest when I am exercising.
- If the hospital is multi-story, you can run up and down the stairs.
- Take some free weights or bands into the room while you are with your son.
- Take your P90X DVDs in with a laptop.
- There may be a gym close by that you could get a trial membership with for the week you are there.
Good luck with the little one. That is hard.0
