Need to vent about food criticism

So I made my Vega smoothie for breakfast and washed up a bowl of strawberries... Had my water and got ready to eat what I eat nearly every day. My in-laws are staying with us right now and my MIL says to me, "That's disgusting!" as i drink my green drink... I tried to explain the reason why I have this and that actually it's pretty good... but she just went on and on... while she ate melted cheese off a plate (sliced and then put on a plate and nuked in the microwave) and a piece of white toast dripping with butter for breakfast. All I wanted to say, "Who's gross now?" I refrained.
It's not the first time someone has said my smoothie grosses them out... but it makes me crazy! I just really want to remind them that if they don't have something nice to say -don't say anything at all!
Rant over.

The melted cheese on a plate thing is the weirdest thing I've heard in a while! At first I thought it was a low-carb thing but then you said she ate bread alongside it. Yeah, she outgrossed you for sure.

The hubs cooking fresh sardines while I was pregnant was gross. Your smoothie? Not so much.

Another good reason not to have the in-laws staying over.

It sounds like you were a lot more diplomatic about it than I would have been (but then I spend a lot of time in the doghouse....)

    MiL in criticising shocker! :D

Come on, if she started paying you compliments, you'd get suspicious.

Honestly, I've never been okay with people making comments regarding my food. I had a co-worker who told me (as I cut into my perfectly cooked rare steak) in great detail how gross he thought my food was and I told him "well, that certainly is one person's opinion, isn't it?" To which he appropriately responded "What, and opinions are like *kitten*?" I just looked at him, he was pretty mad.

More recently I just say, "yeah, and that was rude." The usually act indignant but shut their traps just the same. Some time's I'll get a "I'm just saying . . . " in return to which I've responed " . . . and so am I."

    LOL!!! LOVE THIS!!!!

I eat VERY low carb, and people are always "that's not safe" or "are you supposed to be eating that?"

Um, first... BITE ME! and second... LEAVE ME ALONE!!!! I have lost more weight than they ever will and worked out more than they ever will!!!

Actually, melted cheese on a plate sounds pretty good (if it's good cheese).

I would just tell her "Don't yuck my yum" and be done with it, after all she's not drinking it you are.
