I'm sure your homemade recipe is better, but if you want a shortcut low calorie ranch dressing, Kroger's
fat-free ranch dressing is 30 calories for a 2 tbsp serving, and it is pretty good. I use it all the time, and
    the price is right also.

    That's awesome, thanks for sharing!
  • I have made this into a dip for veggies by reducing the milk amount down so it is thicker. Very good!

Blythe...what would be the ratio of mayo to buttermilk be?

It was about a gallon of mayo to a half gallon of buttermilk.... I would just slop it all in the bowl until it looked right, lol, been cooking way too long.

the only problem I have with this is the powdered ranch mix stuff is packed with ridiculous amounts of sodium.

Just confirmed on Foodfacts.com the packet has 3500mg sodium and an obscene amount of Monosodium glutamate (probably why it makes stuff taste good ;-)
  • I use FF cottage cheese and put the dry Ranch mixture in a blender. This way you get a ton of protein. You can make it as thick or thin as your prefer.

I fell in love with ranch dressing when I was visiting California two years ago, but we can't get here in the UK :frown:

Does anyone on here like ranch dressing as much as I do? Before I started on here, I would put it on EVERYTHING.. And it's so bad for you!! I found an awesome recipe for some homemade ranch and it is really good and so easy to make! You only need 3 ingredients and a canning jar or some other kind of container with a lid. Just whisk the following ingredients together:

1 cup non-fat plain greek yogurt
1/2 cup 1% milk (A little less if you like a thicker consistency)
1 packet Hidden Valley ranch mix (They have different flavored ones, too!)

And BAM! You have some tasty ranch dressing for a fraction of the calories!

Note: If you don't like the tangy-ness of greek yogurt, you might not like it, because, well... it's mostly greek yogurt. I'd suggest giving it a try though!

Due to the salt and monosodiumglutamate the ranch packet is out for me.
Found a better version on skinnytaste.com:

    Low-fat Buttermilk Ranch Dressing
    Gina's Weight Watcher Recipes

    Calories: 52.3 • Fat: 2.0 g • Carbs: 5.5 g • Fiber: 0.0 g • Protein: 3.4 g • Sugar: 3.7 g
    Sodium: 288.8 mg

    Ingredients:
3/4 cup fat free sour cream
3/4 cup fat free Greek yogurt
    1/3 cup Hellman's light mayonnaise
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1 tsp onion powder
    1 tbsp chopped fresh chives
    1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
    1 tsp salt
    freshly ground pepper
    1-2 tbsp white balsamic vinegar
2 cups 1% low fat buttermilk

This way you can adjust the salt to taste.

I made dip today...just ff Greek yogurt and ranch mix. Pretty tasty. I know the sodium is high but I just made enough for two servings of dip. It is a nice switch up from hummus!
