I'm just starting out, on day 6 to be exact, and I'm just wondering what every one's time frame has been for loosing their weight and what you've done do do it. I'm hoping to be able to get both some positive vibes from this thread that i can do this too and realistic goals as well. I don't know if my goals are realistic or not but I would really like them to be. so please, if my goals are not realistic (and i understand that it's different for everyone), let me know so I don't set myself up for failure. So, I'll go first...

SW (April 14/12)- 191lbs
CW (April 19/12)- 189.6 lbs (when weighed first thing in morning)
GW ( hoping for beginning of Oct./12) - 135 lbs

I'm 5'3" (well...a smidgen under)

What I've been doing to reach my goal...eating healthy foods, eating the right amount of calories, drinking the recommended amount of water (maybe a bit more) and using my treadmill for 30 minutes doing interval training on an incline. Hoping to be able to do this 5 days a week. I'm doing speed walking because right now jogging or running hurts my knees. My high intervals are at a speed of about 3.3mph and low intervals are about 1.8mph and working on a 10% incline.

Ok...give me some inspiration and please post your stats so i can see if I have realistic goals or not. A big thanks in advance! :o)

well from your numbers thats 2.75lbs a week, thats on the high side for maintanability, a more realistic goal would be to avg around 1 or slightly higher since in the beginning loosing will be easy then those last 10-15lbs . Now thats not to say you cannot do it, it will just take serious work and commitment diet wise to get there, Good Luck! remember nothing easy is worth it!
  • I lost the weight by watching what and the amount of food I ate.
And I walk A LOT. I'm a housekeeper for a big icompany so I walk about 8 miles a day.
I'm 5'4 and I've been stuck within 5 lbs for some time now.

Thank you! :o) I will be happy with a 7-8 lb loss a month. If I don't reach my goal weight by the beginning of Oct., it won't be the end of the world, i'll just extend it :o) I've also done a 360 with my lifestyle, it was a very junky lifetyle before :o)

My advice - make your workout time count. I often see people walk around the gym, then hop on a treadmill and walk SLOWER than the pace they were walking when going from the changeroom to the water fountain. Well, I aways think, that's just silly!

If you're going to work out for 30 minutes a day, that's fantastic! But promise you will always push yourself to burn as many calories as possible in that time. So you could consider pushing your lower limit on your intervals to 2.0 or 2.5 even...something that's close to your regular walking pace. And sometimes, instead of increasing the pace of your interval, you can jack up the incline. You could even throw some simple body weight exercises in. Walk hard 5 minutes, jump off and do some squats or leg lifts, walk 5 minutes, do some pushups, etc. etc. etc. My point is to try different things using the equipment you have. Confusing your body will really help to torch calories.

Finally, remember to increase your paces as you get more fit. I promise you, there will be a day where 3.3 mph will be your easy pace!
