Try going to fat2fitradio.com and select 'All Calculators' on the right hand side. Complete the Military Body Fat calculator. Once your body fat is known, click on 'BMR Calculators' on the right hand side an input your data.

From here you will get the information you need to make an informed decision about calories.

You want to eat between your BMR (McKurdle one is more accurate) and your chosen TDEE. You will choose your TDEE based on your activity level. Ideally, you eat your TDEE 100%, but if you are trying to lose weight and are far from your goal it's okay to eat between the two.

If you need more help or clarifications don't hesitate to ask.

This is a great topic thread. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/568294-bmr-vs-mfp-daily-calorie-allowance

It will really help you decide what your calorie goal should be. You basically want to eat higher than your HRM but about 20% lower than your TDEE.

This is a good site as well http://www.fitnessfrog.com. You can calculate your HRM and TDEE here.

Feel free to friend me. I have been on MFP since October, but I think I finally have the goals figured out. My calorie goal was set way too low and I have not been loosing.
