I exercise daily. I eat healthy. I believe that these are positives in my life, but it seems to offend people. Like somehow me taking care of myself and my health is a direct blow to other people. I had hoped that I would be supported in this lifestyle change, but instead it seems to irritate people. Anyone else have this experience?

Depends on how...vocal/obvious about it you are...I guess.

No one seems bothered by my diet/exercise and some ask for tips.

A lady at my office is very proud (boastful IMO) of her Weight Watchers success and it really grates on quite a few people, including me.

I am not a vocal or boastful person. In fact, I tend to be very quiet and reserved. What usually happens is that a friend will want me to go out for drinks and bar food (fried). This is not something that I desire to do and will respectfully decline, at which point the guilt trip is laid on me. "C'mon, a couple drinks is fine! You can indulge in fried foods once in a while", etc. I again decline (without any additional comments on nutriion, etc.) I am more than happy to hang out with friends who drink or choose to eat bar food, but I don't choose to drink myself. I don't think that should be offensive. It's a personal choice.
  • I think you need to find new friends and surround yourself with people who respect the changes you are trying to make.

    Sorry... :(

I wouldn't hang with people who were trying to sabotage my success.

Maybe they see it as a criticism of their choices. How about just telling them that fried food and alcohol make you feel sick - not the hangover amount of drink, just drink in general.

I know that I have become more and more intolerant of these things and chocolate and am in so much pain when I have them that I very, very rarely indulge.

    Friends...who'd have them?!
