MOTHERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN

  • In our house we try to stay on a budget, which means no gym memberships for us. I try to get my workouts done in the morning before my youngest is awake (1 year) while my 3 year old watches a movie on the laptop. Or during my 1 year old's nap time, and if that all fails, then after they go to bed.
I do P90X (one round done, starting round 2 on May 1) and I have Zumba for xbox.
So really, if you can do it when they sleep....awesome. Or if they are awake, try and find some sort of safe activity or distraction for them to do for 30-60 minutes so you can have some "me" time. :)

When my son was younger around 1 or 2 I would get up SUPER early (around 4a to workout at at 430a). But now that he is older and sleeps later I actually leave him with DH while I go workout and enjoy my ME time

I have a 1 year old and he hated the stroller I bought a stage 2 little car buggy push thing and he wants to ride in it all the time.

Nap time or early in the morning is probably your best bet.

I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. I wait till they either take a nap or I wake up early to workout. I mostly do workout videos or use the wii.

I love the ymca! If you have a gym or y near you, check them out. Most will have childcare and the ymca uses a sliding fee (if you need it).

I have 3 boys-ages 7,4,3. I used to workout when my little two were napping but my 4 year old no longer takes naps. So instead I workout after my oldest son leaves for school. I put a movie on for my other boys or have them play in their room while I workout. Sometimes I'll take them out for a bike ride or a walk.

Wake up before the kids, do a DVD workout "Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred" is like $20 and you can buy it at walmart. I have added ankle weights, which helps. I am also brutally honest about my activity level on my profile on here, and use this site religiously to manage my food.

it's so hard! i don't fit much in. but, i try to wake up early and get 30 minutes in before my kids are up. i have a min trampoline in our gameroom and a run on that and do a little bit of arms with light weights at the same time.

i like that i can catch up on some tv or watch a movie while i do this--- multitasking!

I'm a full time working mom of one... So I exercise during my lunch break... and then on the weekends, I try to either at night after she goes to bed (I'm fortunate though, she is a good sleeper) or while she is taking a nap... fortunately though she loves going on "buggy rides" (that's what her daycare calls them) and has since she was born.

how do you get any excersise?
I try walking but my son is 1 and he hates being in the stroller! And besides that i dont know what else i can do with him and for me to excersise.

I took my boys around things they loved to see. Fire stations and flightlines, construction sites and waterfront birds, things they enjoyed. I also gave them snacks as I walked.

Do you have a carrier? I carry my son everywhere in my Ergo. We go on long walks and hiking. He loves the carrier, and I either go when my daughters are napping or they hike with me.

my son is 2.5 and i work full time. So I do 30 Day Shred after he goes to bed for the night around 8. It's almost impossible to do anything while he is awake. But yes, 30DS is awesome!!! and only 20 minutes and no gym commute, and SERIOUSLY awesome results!

I work out while my daughter is taking a nap. That gives me about a 2 hour window of time to workout and then catch a nap myself if I need one. If, however, that isn't possible, you could also wait for him to go to bed for the night and get a workout in then. :)

    This.

I babysit and I usually have about 6 kids here. I workout in the basement at naptime. :)

I work out while my youngest naps. I have a 1 and a 2 year old and it's hard at times to find the time. If I have to I wait until my husband is home and go to the gym or go in the other room and do my workout
try dvd stuff like jullian michaels or supreme 90 they are all under an hour and its easier to find time for those

Usually after they go to bed. I run on the treadmill and/or do a short DVD workout. I'm not a morning person and I don't watch much tv so it's the perfect time. Some nights it means neglecting the housework and husband, but I'm ok with that!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!
I actually bought him a back pack leash and he loves it! I do to! It is nice to let him explore without me having to worry if he will go near traffic or near somthing he shouldnt and i love the excersise. I will also try the excersiesing during night time. Nap time is my chore time. lol Thank you all again for your help.
funny you should ask this because i been feeling like my 18month old doesn't want his fluffy mommy to disappear so he is trying to sabatage me lately 2 days this week he was sleep and as soon as i got on the treadmill he comes. my husband goes to work at 6am i turn on the coffee and i swear he smells folgers cause he is up tugging on me . i been getting it in after he goes to bed or at least when my husband can get him at night. he use to take 2 naps a day i think the last one is hanging by a thread

I have an 18 month old and 31month old... Its hard for me to get any done, for one they dont nap during the day and if they do they do it at different times. They do try to copy me if am doing dvds but my living room is small so its hard, especially when am on the floor and all they want to do is climb on top of me. For you have time you can take him to he/she to the park get them ture then go for a run... I cant rung or walk so i cant take them with.me(knee injury)... For now i will ride the bike after they go to bed around 11 the latest. Its hard but i try to do what i can. Oh i also do wii dance 1& 2 since my kids love doin ot and i dont.have to get on the floor thats easy unless they are cranky

Why is it always about the mothers? Why can't it be about dad's?

And...Im against leashing children. Why kids are amazingly cute and cuddly, they are not pets.

    on suggestions:
If you have time during the day, put them in a stroller if they are that young and go for a walk
Get a cart to add to the back of your bike (or a child seat) and go for a ride

if only time is at night, as it is for me....do body resistance training and get a stationary bike or elliptical. If you have stairs...walk them.

My son is 1 1/2. I workout normally when he is a sleep, the last few days however I've been working out to my turbo jam videos while he plays on the floor a few feet from me

Our boys are 2 & 4. Our 2 year old will stay in the stroller for our longer walks, and our 4 year old has learned that he has to stick with me and not run off. As far as in the house- I do Zumba and things like that, and they usually try to copy me, or they lose interest and do their own thing. I do c25k when my husband is home because I don't have a jogging stroller and I'm too lazy to get one quite yet

And LOL to whoever said they're against leashes, but ok with strollers. Same concept.

My kids were 4 and 1 when I started working out. My 4 year old would play in her room, i'd wait until my 1 year old went down for nap. I could usually get an hour in. My oldest was good about not getting into stuff.

I have 2 young children and I get up at 5:45 every morning to workout while my kids sleep. Then I shower and get them up so we can eat breakfast together. I love having my workout over and done with so I don't have to worry about it the rest of the day.

Man, I wish I could do this! They have like, alarm clocks inside their heads that must go off as soon as I wake up in the morning. LOL

My daughter is 9 months old. I work out early in the morning or whenever my dad is watching her.
You should try woking out when your child is asleep.
