Net calories vs total calories

Hello everyone! So this has been puzzling me for a few months now. Now that my tennis season has started, I'm burning a lot of calories and sometimes, my net calories are 500 at the end of the day. My question is, should I be more concerned about eating 1200 calories total or 1200 net calories? On the days that I exercise more, should I be eating back calories?
