In order to use a handheld device that gives bodyfat percentage, a person will need their weight, so they don't need to throw away their scale. Just because a person gets a professional to test their body fat percentage using a caliper, it doesn't mean their body fat percentage is right.
While partially true, I would trust my conclusions from measurements of calipers than a hand held device.

Agree completely, and add to that those ridiculous bodyfat scales. The hand held devices, and the scales are just useless.

Have you tried either? How are they useless? Do you realize that calipers can't be used on obese people? I have seen a professional take a woman's body fat percentage and given her a low body fat percentage, when it was obvious that he was wrong. I trust my scale and Omron Handheld Body Fat monitor. They are accurate to me.

If you can learn how to do it correctly as possible, and when to do it, you can at least indicate direction.

Not accurate enough for anything important, but direction would be useful.

My Omron foot/hand combo BIA is at least very consistent compared to how others say it'll read 5% different 30 min later. Of course, they never comment if they just had coffee, bathroom, short workout, ect, in that 30 min.

But even on it, I think they could get more stats to tighten up potential accuracy. Besides gender which they only do, they could at least get height, or better, torso height while sitting. That stat wouldn't change, and would on avg indicate arm length too.
    Age would probably help too.

But oh well, not it's just become a more expensive study or database the manufacturer has to buy, and if too difficult, folks will use it wrong.

Yep...and I've had enough run ins with you to know that that's ALL that matters.

I use measurements to gauge my body fat. The scales and hand held devices have been rubbish for me. The most accurate is the water displacement measurements. However,a tape is also good.

My Omron Handheld Body Fat Monitor and Body Fat Scale, both requires your gender, age and height.

Doesn't mean that that's going to give you a true accurate reading.

I know...the thing is that it doesn't matter how many facts, points, how much proof, what examples...etc that you give, if its outside her personal experience, it simply isn't possible. I usually go out of my way to avoid disagreeing with her in a thread, simply because the headache I get trying to explain the point I've made isn't worth it. If you finally corner her to the point where she has to give in, she changes the subject.

Anyhow, anyone with experience acknowledges the inaccuracy of the scales etc. The funny thing is, that the very expensive ones hold a memory (I believe it's 3-5hrs from what I was reading). If the readings are within 10% of the previous readings, they display the same number. I wish I could find the page where it was talking about that.
