    I think it'll be a disaster. I don't know the personality of your child, so who knows.. but I'd try some shorter hikes first and build up to the day you can take a long one. Like, take several weeks of going daily or a few months of going on weekends, gradually building up the time/miles. It'll be a LONG walk back if things go bad and you're far from home.     you're a better person than me...

    at 22 months i don't think i was brave enough to even take my child out of the house.

    at 9 1/2 yrs I still prefer to leave her at home.
