It's a running workout schedule that takes you off the couch and up to running a 5k. there are many links if you google it but here is a good explanation:

I'm going to start it in the beginning of July. How effective is it?

Why wait? Start now! Running is the best way to burn calories. Sign up for a 5k race to get you motivated. Good luck you can do it! :flowerforyou:

I would love to but I was told to take it easy on my knee and gradually work my way up to running by the beginning of July by my doctor. But I am excited about it.

Its extremely effective if you stick with it. I'm on the final week now, and I ran a 5k last night. Considering I was unable to run around a block just a few months ago, I think that's a pretty drastic change. It ramps you up slowly using intervals.

There are people on here who have lost a significant amount of weight while doing the program as well.

what about swimming or biking? you may want to do some other excercise before then to prepare yourself, or maybe you already are. Good Luck on your Journey. :flowerforyou:

There is a book you can buy but if you just google couch to 5k the basic training program comes up, I just printed that and all 9 weeks were there. It is a great program for new runners and runners trying to get back into the game, my daughter ran cross country last year until her hip muscle (gluteus medius) tore and she couldn't even walk and I asked her PT about the couch to 5k and after some review the PT said it was a perfect beginning program.

on the cool runnings site, scroll down the program is on that page you don't need to pay for the download.

I just finished week 7 about 1/2 hour ago! It's AMAZING what you can do with Couch to 5k....when I first started I couldn't jog a whole lap at the track - today I walked 1 jogged 10 and then walked one more....I am still amazed that I am doing it and not talking about someone else - don't give up - repeat workouts or weeks if you need to - its great!

I'm on week 3 of the Cool Running Couch to 5K program. I love it!! I think it's really cool that I started the first week of June and my August 1, I'll be able to run a 5K. If I don't repeat any weeks - which I may. That's o.k. too! I have a 5k run Sept 4 I'm going to sign up for. :drinker:

On the CoolRunning site - you can download the program for like $20 - but if you scroll down the page there is a print button and you can just print the program free. Also - Women's Health has a program too.
