Help!! My HRM isn't making sense... ePulse2

OK... So I just received my HRM today in the mail... I purchased a ePulse2... it had really good reviews and it goes around my forearm instead of my chest which I really like! However... after inputting all my information I decided to sit on my butt and while eating some dinner tested it out... After 10 mins it told me I had burned 40 cals!! Seriously? I don't understand that... That would mean in a 24 hr period i was burning over 5000 cals by just sitting on my *kitten*!! This is not possible! When I had put in all my info it told me my BMR was a little over 1700... which is pretty accurate... so I'm completely confused now :/ Then I did my 20 min zumba ab workout.... according to MFP I burn over 160 cals doing this... but my HRM said I only burned off 110... but if i'm burning 40 in 10 mins that means I only burned off an extra 30 cals doing the workout... Understand my confusion?? What do I do? does anybody else have this HRM that can give me some tips? or at least help me understand??
