I need some support...

At the college I go to, there is a nutrition therapist that I want to make an appointment with.

Unfortunately, I weigh twice as much as I'm supposed to, and it's embarrassing to me to have to tell someone I barely know about my weight. I'm afraid that she might think I'm a "hopeless case" or make the assumption that I don't do anything but sit around and eat, like my doctor seems to think.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks.

I am sure the therapist would love to help and would be supportive. That's why he or she chose that career. Go.

Take advantage of this opportunity. people do not choose a career as a therapist for the chance to make fun of others. I'm certain she will be a wonderful support person and give you the motivation and education you need.

    Best of luck!

Your on here - so that show that you are attempting to do something. This persons job is to help people - the fact that you are reaching out for help is great as well. I would not be afraid - like my friend told me - it's not like your weight is a secret others can just look at you and tell if you are over weight or not - so be proactive and get the help that you need. We all have our own problems with food or we would not be here!! I am proud that you are taking the initative to reach out for help. Only you can help yourself with weight issues - its not like someone can do it for you!!
  • You all are very sweet... Thank you. I will make an appointment for as soon as I can.

I will be thinking of all of your kindness and support. That will help me stay strong.

No one is a hopeless case. It took everything I had a little over 5 months ago to walk into a local weight loss clinic and finally ask for help. I tried doing it on my own and I failed so many times. I was at least twice the weight I should be and my health was getting worse every day.

In not quite 6 months my wonderful support staff at the clinic have taught me to eat right and the importance of exercise. They can't make me lose the weight but have been such great supporters that I have stuck to the plan and have lost almost 80lbs already.

I go every month for checkups and more advice from them. And I leave every month thanking them. You will too. It will be just as rewarding for you to throw out your clothes and pull the smaller ones from the closet or go shopping for new ones.

Good luck on your journey and believe you can do it...because you can.
