RUNNERS: The day before a long run what do you do?

Do you take the day off, do an easy run, or cross train (if so, what?)?

I don't treat it too much different than any other running day, with the exception that I don't do anything excessively strenuous the day before (squats, deadlifts, hill repeats).

Really depends on how I feel. More often than not, I prefer just resting, but there have been days where I'll go for a hike or do an Insanity workout. Sometimes I'll take the horses out, too, or go for a short, easy run. I don't do strength or heavy-duty lower-body stuff, though, because it'll really fatigue my muscles the next day.

I personally don't like having a set idea or schedule, so I just follow my body's cues for the day, and go from there.

Tomorrow is my long run day (16km) today will be an easy 5 to 8km (and I mean slow pace, relaxed run - it's just to stay loose) and half an hour of weights.

If it was the day before a race no weights and, depending on how I felt, a shorter easy run or just relaxing.

I don't do anything especial. I ran 5 miles at my race pace last night and my long run will be 9 miles today.

My long run day is Sunday. When not marathon training, I'll do 8 to 10 on Saturday, sometimes with an additional 4 mile second run and then 12 to 15 on Sunday. When marathon training, 8 to 12 on Saturday with long run up to 22 miles on Sunday.

I do 3, 5, 3, then increasingly long runs. I rest in between. I don't do anything lower body-wise the day before a long run.

Personally, I would not do any run, training or anything else.

What is the point of training when you are going to do a long run the next day, are you on about a race by the way? If so, definitely rest the day before.
