Hello all,
Just got started on this site and I must say I am impressed. I will post an intro later today (: I have a serious pension for sweets especially those of the chocolate variety. The worst is in the middle of the night, I will wake up and take out everything and anything sweet and tasty in site! Does anybody have a good tip on something I can acquire which may help satisfy this craving but not tip the scales too bad?
Many thanks (:

Almond milk with some sugar free cocoa or cocoa powder and stevia, Fiber One brownie, one square of dark chocolate.
I'd also recommend not having the offending item in the house. If it is there, you are going to eat it. GL, and welcome to MFP!0 -
I agree with Tmarie2715. The only way not to go for it is to not buy it at all.0

I can relate! is it all chocolate or specific eg, milk/white/dark? I find that if I eat milk chocolate it just makes me want more, white chocolate is too sweet for me but a little is good for that chocolate fix and dark chocolate is my favorite but I could not overeat it without feeling ill! Maybe change chocolate? If its all chocolate? :noway: don't buy it  good luck!0

Hi there sweets junkie:
Yea I have the same problem. But what works for me is Chromium supplement, seriously... it curves my cravings dramatically!
Also i take L-Carnitine 500 mg and CLA 1000mg those 2 are for stamina and energy, they work really good for me when I exercise!0 -
So first of all, I'm a one stop shop for how to satisfy chocolate cravings. I almost never want anything else, so I can't help there.
Best purchase I've ever made in my life: peanut butter & co dark chocolate dreams. I put it on everything from berries to bread to pretzels to protein bars to... A spoon... Lol
Get a yummy protein powder and make "milkshakes" by using 1/2 a cup cottage cheese, 1/2 a cup water or milk, protein powder, 5-10 ice cubes, and literally anything else you want. Today I did a tbl of chocolate pudding mix. Yesterday was a drop of mint extract. Dashingdish.com has tons of recipes
Lastly I only buy 1 portion on an as needed basis if I really crave it. It kills my cost effective side to not buy in bulk, but this way I have to want it bad enough to go get it. And the 200 calories isn't going to kill my day.
Aside from that, fruit is a good way to get nutritious "sweet" and some people say going low carb makes your sweet cravings go away, but a life without carbs is just not worth living IMO. Plus low carb endurance training in a calorie deficit is ill advised. I already have enough trouble hitting premature walls0 -
Also if your gonna eat choc.. eat the dark kind, its way better for you!

If you can eat sweets in moderation I would get some of those 100 calories chocolate snacks (might help b/c it's pre-packaged)....Also, like they said - try to keep the bad snacks out of the house if you can't control it....That is what I have to do b/c I have no willpower if its in the house sometimes...Also, get some of the health bars or protein bars w/chocolate b/c then at least you are getting other nutrients with the chocolate...That is another thing I do... HTH
Feel free to add me as a friend too.....Welcome to MFP!!0 -
Wow! What an awesome site! These are some great suggestions! As far as the 100 cal snacks, those are good, especially when eating 15 in a sitting, yes, moderation for me is difficult. Unfortunately I have a bunch of roomies so not having it in the house is impossible, these guys all eat whatever they want and are lean and mean.. Yes, I hate each of one of them (: I am going to try all of your suggestions, really digging the shake idea and the supplement to help cure the craving.. Thanks everybody!0

I am seeing a nutritionist and she suggested trying dates or prunes. Both have fiber and the dates are a good source of potassium. I bought my fresh dates in the produce dept. I'm not sure what variety they are, but they taste like caramel and are a little chewy. They are one of my new go-to snacks when I'm craving something sweet.0

I have a shake every day. Like the other poster, I put literally everything in it! It's a great way to use up those overripe bananas that nobody wants to eat too! But I'm not limited to fruit, I've been known to add peanut butter, chocolate powder, spinach (yes, spinach), sweet potatoes, etc.
Chobani makes a 'chocolate chunk' yogurt, in the little kids size which I think is about 100 calories. It's not super chocolatey, but a little drizzle of sugar free chocolate syrup should correct that!
Oh, also google protein pancakes, and replace like a tablespoon of the flour with cocoa powder.
OK Now I'm hungry0 -

That actually sounds good, I'm always looking for more fiber.
Yep, definitely hungry now.0 -
I love the old chocolate loads! if i see some i want then i have to brush my teeth so it would taste funny if i had it... only way i'm afraid xxx0

Weight Watchers makes these 100 calorie Giant Fudge ice cream bars. They are so tasty--almost like frozen chocolate mousse and have some protein too. They also make a smaller bar that has 45 calories.0

My chocolate cravings demand real chocolate and will not be satisfied with imitations. When they are bad I get dark, dark chocolate 80% or higher. It's slightly bitter, but it satisfies my craving and I can't eat much of it without feeling sick whereas milk chocolate, any low fat chocolate or diet chocolate, I can and have eaten whole bags in a sitting. Dark chocolate is not health food, but it has antioxidants, may lower blood pressure and is a good source of iron. Just work it into your calories and macros.0

Heh, you sound like me. I have terrible issues controlling cravings for sweet stuff, and going into stores is a nightmare for me when faced with shelf upon shelf of chocolate, cookies and cakes. I have yet to solve the issue, other than not bringing it into my home. I am trying the dark chocolate idea myself since I am not so keen on it as milk chocolate and the like. I also find mixing up greek yoghurt with prunes, some banana, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, sultanas and a small amount of jam/jelly helps a lot when the sweet craving hits as it comes out very sweet.0

What I found that helped is to set aside a portion of my calories and macronutrients for the day for something I enjoy, which is usually some form of chocolate. It has made it easier for me to keep it under control because then I know I can eat it everyday.
If my cravings are particularly bad then I'll set aside a huge chunk of calories and macronutrients while eating a lot more vegetables that day so I can eat more chocolate than normal.
If you're looking for a substitute, it'll be hard. You aren't going to find anything particularly good that substitutes for chocolate. The closest thing might be some fruit or a protein bar.
I'd try and moderate your intake first then think about substitutions after.0 -
I have the same exact problem. I would form my days calories around a jelly doughnut! I sometimes slip up but my fixes lately that have been easy on the calories are skinny cow ice creams, arctic zero ice cream(150 cal a pint :noway: ), fruits sometimes does it, coffee, pudding cups and graham crackers..you just need to get creative but it's all worth it! Good luck!:flowerforyou:0

Sorry, no tips but I find it interesting that you are a male version of me.0 -
I LOVE CHOCOLATE!! Many of the suggestions already given are great! I have only 90 Calorie Brownies from Fiber One in the house.... but yesterday I was out. I ate real brownies and went way over in calories (Not just because of the brownies).
I have very little control with sweets, so I try to keep the lowest calorie substitutes in the house. I also love Skinny Cow Ice Cream. Good luck:-)0 -
swiss miss hot chocolate. Great chocolate fix, and only 90 calories0

i have sainsburys light hot chocolate - only 40 calories a cup so i have a few a day then i dont feel like i am missing out!0

I drink the GNC mega greens supplement shake. I find that if the body is devoid of vital nutrients it sends out craving signals that are usually misinterpreted hence the craving for chocolate. Since I started my morning shakes....my cravings have all but stopped.0
