U could do ur crunches on a bosu-ball..

I suggest if you are feeling pain NOW, see a chiropractor and get ur spine and neck and everything lined up..

When I first started working I had horrible lower back issues b/c I pushed instead of paying attention to the pain. So, I saw a chiropractor to help. Unfortunately because of how I did it, I would work out on Tuesday and see the chiropractor on Wednesday to ease the muscle pain and stretch out.

Now that things are healthy, and lined up.. I haven't been having any lower back pain, knee pain, and my migraines are mostly gone. I see him every 2 weeks now for maintenance.. moving to once a month in May. Just a suggestion.

Do standing crunches. They work more than just your front abs and it won't hurt your neck.

It depends what is causing the pain. If it's while you are doing crunches, it's down to bad form and you're straining your neck instead of pulling up with the abdominals. You can cup your hands behind your head for support but you need to be 100% that you are not pulling your head forward. Or you could use something like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Weider-821026-Crunch-Trainer/dp/B000KPCFZS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335105890&sr=8-1 which will support your neck and head

don't do them with your neck. keep your neck in one position, and just engage your abs. the best way is with a swiss ball, like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVBddP5oW8Y
