How do you figure your goal weight?

I'm 49, 5'6"... How do I know how to figure a realistic goal for myself?

    you could find out your lean mass, and then look at healthy fat% ranges

    Pop your measurements in here -- http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/

    then put the bodyfat% and your goal % in here - http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/

    you could put in an upper and lower value to find a weight range rather than try to pin it down to the exact pound.

    That gives me an ideal weight of 100-110lbs.

    I currently have a fat free mass of 100lbs, so I think those numbers are extremely unrealistic, unless I lose a load of muscle along with my fat.

    Aim to be a BMI of 25 whatever that works out to be in KGS etc. Then even if you're big boned like me, its a realistic target.

    When i calculated mine.. for my height (5'1) it said i should be 98-125. At 40.. i just think thats too small, so
    I added 10 lbs to what it said and am shooting for 135. Will re evaluate when i get there.

    I tried this and it says for my frame and height, my ideal weight is between 152-167. I think that is totally doable, even though right now I cannot image me ever getting down to that weight. It's 80-100 lbs away!

    *looks at calendar* I think I could pull that off by this time next year...maybe? :huh:

    I've set a target of 10 stone which I went for because it sounded like an ok weight to be. Have since found out it's still at least half a stone above the higher end of the BMI targets but I'm not sure how much attention to pay to that. I will re-evaluate when I get closer to goal depending on how I feel/look at the time.

    Just pick one that sounds reasonable. When you get close to that you can reevaluate. BMI isn't terribly accurate but it will do as a starting point.

    That gives me an ideal weight of 118-128 and Im going for 125. so thats cool. great link!

    I just chose the weight I used to be at, or thereabouts. However, if I get to, say 150lbs, and I feel that I look slim and toned, I will stop. My aim is a flat stomach (which is coming along nicely :bigsmile:) and just generally being slim without any rolls or the like. But don't wanna be super skinny.

    Set little goals instead one big goal overall. You'll know when you feel best. When I was in my early 30s 125-130 felt best. then, I felt best in 135-140 range in my early 40's. Unfortunately, I'm same age and height as you and the 149 feels chubby, jiggly and my energy level is too low. I'm starting today to get back to that 138-142 range.

    my real goal is my favourite dress from about 6 years ago don't know what weight that is LOL

    BMI should be used with a HUGE grain of salt as a very loose guideline as it was established in the 1800s and for very different purposes than what it's being used for today.

    I'm 5'4 and going for 150 because I felt fit and satisfied at that size - some people would say that's too high but it worked for me. Perhaps I'll re-evaluate when I get there but it was manageable and I felt fabulous (my profile pic is at that weight). Pick something that seems reasonable and just take it as it comes :)

    Hmm, this does not work for me at all. The ideal weight range is very high. I switch to the med frame measurement and still quote that I should be 124-136!

    112 pounds is my goal weight, just as I thought. But I think 115-117 would suffice goal wise. And that "32 pounds of extra fat" is a wakeup call :)

    I also use Fat2Fits calculators to calculate body fat percent and goal weight. It appears to be very accurate compared to other calculators I've tried.
