Digital Scales - Did I waste my money?

I decided to replace my old manual scale with a digital one since my eyesight isn't what it used to be and I was having trouble reading the "in-between" pounds. Yesterday, I stepped on the new scales about 15 different times and got 15 different readings. I find it hard to believe I could shed 2 pounds in a matter of minutes then gain it back a few minutes later. This wasn't really what I had in mind when I bought the digital scale and if this is the way it is to be I may as well keep the old one and buy a magnifying glass. The scales are sitting in the exact same spot I first placed them on my bathroom floor and I am trying to stand in the same place each time but it doesn't seem to matter. I was wondering if this is a universal problem with digital scales or if there is some trick to weighing myself correctly that I haven't picked up on. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know you have to store them flat, I used to prop mine up between weigh days and they were a bit erratic. Mine do still vary a little, but I wait til I have 3 readings the same on the trot the go for that! Not much help I'm afraid...

It's definitely not universal. I have a cheap digital scale (I think it might be a Weight Watchers brand, I just know it was the only kind they carried at the pharmacy!) and it's very consistent. Sometimes they have reset buttons, depending on the brand/model, maybe yours has something like that? Otherwise, I'd advise you return it if you can and get a different one that won't cause a problem.

I don't have that problem with my Tanita, I've had it about 10 years now but it was pricey (maybe $50?).

Are the batteries new? Older batteries can hurt the accuracy of the scale.

My old scale was that way. If you stepped on and got off and then immediately back on again there would be several pounds difference. I bought a weight watchers digital scale and haven't had any problems since then. Always consistent. Return it and try another brand.

Check out the EatSmart scale on Amazon, I've had mine for over a year and it's super accurate. It's not very expensive either, and has thousands of positive reviews.
