new to mfp, type II diabetic, looking for friends 40 - 60

I just started this week, and am looking for friends facing similar challenges. I think I want to lose around 30 lbs total, but my primary driver is to get healthier, and get better control of my diabetes hopefully while reducing medication. I have a lot of knowledge of nutrition, but have been eating way too many calories until now. I am hoping to change for good, not just a short term objective to lose weight.

Hi, I just started a few days ago. I'm 39 so I'm almost in your target area. I've lost 65lbs and have another 50 or so to go. I am looking to eat healthier and live a healthier life style. I have cut out all processed foods out of my diet and we'll just see how that goes. lol. My Mom was just diagnoosed w/Type II diabeties so I now have that in my medical history to keep in the back of my mind. Good luck to you!

welcome. There's many of us here that are prediabetic, diabetic or used to be. I'm so happy to be off medication now thanks to my diet changes

Hello and welcome. I was diagnosed with type 2 last month. My first A1C was 7.6 and four weeks later with just diet and walking it had dropped to 6.0!! My goal is to never go on medication! I have read stories on here of people being able to either reduce or get completely off them. SO.......good luck!!!

    Welcome to MFP!!!

I was diagnosed with diabetes approx. 11 years ago and my sugar was constantly fluctuating. When they diagnosed me it was 545. I didn't take control over the last 9 years and decided that I was tired of the medication and I just wanted to get healthier so I started with cutting out sodas and went with strictly water. It them moved to watching my calories and exercising and I am happy to say that today I have been off of my daibetic medication and also my blood pressure medication for almost 2 years. I like the feeling of not having to rely on medicine to control it.

I've been and MFP member since April of last year and it's helped me stay focused and on track. If you need some support feel free to add me.
