How does nutrition information on a member-submitted food get "confirmed" by members? Does anyone know?

Thanks!
Linda

If you click on view nutritional info
There is a dialog to confirm it

I don't see that dialog. Can you tell me the tab you're in that allows you to do that?

When you pull up the item you want and it says how many confirmations, it also says nutritional information, click on that and you can check and confirm the info x

I found it. When you're in the food diary and you click on "add food", that's where it is. You have to scroll down. Thanks for making me look! :-)

there's not a tab, when you select the food, there's a clickable link about where you put in your servings that says nutritional info. When you click the link it pops the nutrition info up and you can confirm the information.

If you click on a food to include in your own food diary, click on the "nutritional info" in the box that appears and then it will ask you if you consider the info displayed as accurate, you then click yes or no. If you click "no", it asks you if you wish to alter it, but if you DO alter it, you have to put the reason why you altered it.

My understanding is that a lot of it is not confirmed - you need to take it with a grain of salt and use a bit of common sense when using the data. Doing some basic research is a good bet; google foods and you will find actuall nutrition information that you can compare to the foods you are booking; use box, bag and can nutritional data as well. A lot of the MFP data is very good but some of it is just not possible....

This morning I was looking for Banana Creme muscle milk and the website has different info for the 11 oz container then the container. I am using the container info. I don't know which is correct. Thanks for all the input.

I have found that a lot of the data that is member submitted - it has an * to indicate this - is incorrect. So when you go to find and then choose a food from the database, check the nutritional panel. If it is not correct, then you can say "No" (not correct) and then it brings up an edit button (you may have to scroll down a bit) and then you can adjust the values according to the nutrition panel yu have in front of you.

I found some things on the database that had no sugar, or fat, or sodium values - why?? :grumble: Not fooling anyone by not being precise and truthful! (Sorry one of my pet irritations)

yeah you should always check the label with the info on here. I was freaking out cause I was way over on my sodium and protein one day and my friend looked at my food diary and told me the info didnt look right. Sure enough the nutrition value for one of the items I ate was WAY off. So I corrected it.

I've found some of the nutritional info to be waaaay off. Google and common sense prevail!

I personally have added many foods to the data base straight from the backs of the containers or boxes, whatever they are in. I usually prefer to add the info by servings in OUNCES or GRAMS. Sick to death of seeing user added amounts that say stuff such as 'about 1 cup' or if it's fruit '1 medium apple' ... Hello???

I check and cross check as much as I can and have corrected many entries. Don't just click the first one you see, scroll through and compare.

& I'm sick to death of having to guess what an apple weighs. Especially if I'm out of the house & hungry, only having weights to go by means that I have to guess when I get home, as I don't carry a scale with me when I leave the house

On a completely unrelated topic, I'm sick of people filling in the calories & NOTHING ELSE. Stop being so lazy!

Yeah..what MFP needs to do is to auto delete any entry that hasn't been confirmed by at least 2 other users within 8 months. That'll clear a ton of junk out!

That is true, I also do not carry a scale everywhere. HOWEVER because I weigh in grams or ounces at home (the apple is usually cut since you don't eat the center) but then I generally have an idea of what a 'small' 'medium' or 'large' apple actually looks like. One persons small size apple might be a massive apple.

    Just saying...

*I also add in all information possible. Calories, fat, carbs, cholesterol, sodium, protein, vitamins.

THIS!!!! I really annoys me! I specifically track my sugars and I wish people would put the sugar # in when they add a food.

That being said. I have added quite a few to the database. I have added "duplicate" entries because there are soooo many incorrect ones in there. I put my name in it somewhere so I (or hubby) can find it (that and it is in my "my foods" tab).

As someone who has submitted a handful of things, I can say sometimes some of that information is not available. More so when it comes to the vitamin content. Even though I may not track all the stuff, I make every effort to get it put in.

However, I believe you can flag an item as incorrect. Once that is done, I do not know what happens on MFP side.

Honestly they don't make this very easy and every time I have to do it I have to go and look it up again. It should be made MUCH MORE obvious. It's in everyone's best interest.
