Stopping riding / spinning does weight go back on?

Hello All,

Just a quick one for all of you two wheelers out there.

I was religiously going spinning twice a week and also riding to work until I feel ill a few weeks ago.

I was told that spinning is bad for you because when you stop all of your weight goes onto your thighs and backside.

I was told that from a gym instructor!!.

Is this true?

I feel more chunky in the past couple of weeks - pants are a bit tighter.

Or is it in my head after being told that??

    Weigh yourself, measure yourself and then you will see if you are slightly larger than you were.

    If you cut out exercise, but eat exactly the same amount of calories, then yes, there is a high chance that you will put weight back on as you will not be burning it off.

    Regarding it going back onto backside and thighs, I have no idea to be honest - that is a very strange thing for an Instructor to say though!

    Is there not a tendency for horseriders to build their leg muscles up quite a bit anyway?

    I know a lot of people who bike, and I have never heard that it is "bad for you" because it builds up your quads and glutes. Like anything else, cross training is always good...but I think it is kind of a ridiculous statement for a gym instructor to make! When I first got in to exercise, all I did was spinning and I lost 60 pounds, and my thighs and glutes were not huge!

    sorry, I also meant to say that I stopped spinning and started weight training and running instead once I lost the 60 pounds....and I did not have an increase in my thighs and glutes since no longer spinning.
