I think it depends on what you personally want to do and how much you have to lose/want to lose a week. my goal is 2lbs a week so i need a 1000 deficit a day. 500 comes from food only (because I am so short) the rest needs to come from excersize so I only eat a tiny portion of the calories I burn about (100-300 I will concume extra).0

i too am still confused because it asks how much I plan on working out a week so i figured it was calculating my exercises already for the TDEE....is MFP only calculating my BMR and then giving me that calorie goal as my deficit???
It does ask how much exercise you plan to include BUT it doesn't count that in. I mean, it couldn't anyway, after all it can't know which days of the week you work out on, right? The way I see it, that information is solely for motivational purposes for yourself.
And no, it creates the deficit not based on your BMR but your TDEE provided you do not exercise at all. So all exercise should be logged in.0
