Hey guys,
Someone I know wants to do a workout with the same effect as the 30 Day Shred, but he has knee injuries and can't strain them too much. Any suggestions?

I have been doing some of the p90x videos. I do the modified moves, and go a little easier cause my right knee and ankle can really start hurting and I don't want to strain them. There is even a guy with one leg that does the workout videos, makes ya really feel weak watching him kick your butt at everything.0

I have a pretty bad case of "runner's knee".
My Dr said to take two advil one hour before a workout and then ice my knee after.0 -
I had knee surgery a few years ago and after rehab I took it easy. Once I got serious about losing weight I started strength training my legs. A lot. Now I have no knee troubles at all. Based on my experience, I would avoid the high impact exercise and focus on some strength training. Once the legs get stronger, then you can start working in the high impact.0

ive had a bad knee (runners knee) for the last 3 months and have been doing swimming (not using legs), Krank (arm bike), boxercise (no running), kettlebells / weights (upper body only), walking on treadmill.
With something like 30DS, I guess if they just skipped the leg parts it would be ok. Best to avoid running / cycling / anything high impoact or with execssive knee bends / squats / lunges / lower body weights.
Hope this helps!0 -
if its a temporary knee injury, STAY OFF THAT KNEE. just focus on abs, arms, and your *kitten* for the time being. knees are essential for exercises!!
if its a chronic knee injury, resistance bands and straight leg lifts are good...walking on grass or the elliptical on very low resistance should be the extent of your cardio exercises. your knees are SO important, try not to do any heavy impact stuff or else you could end up with a cane!0 -
Do the lower impact versions of the exercises and march in place instead of all the jumping around. That's what I did when starting the 30DS.
Otherwise, don't do it! It's really tough on the knees.
I had to have PT on my knee at one point (too much weight, and poor genetics), and I did a lot of no weight leg extensions, leg curls, and heel raises to strengthen the muscles around the joint. Plus then the appropriate stretches to stretch those same muscles. Never would have dreamed of doing the 30DS during that time!0 -
Thanks guys! It's a permanent knee injury he has, so he has to be very careful.0
