Are exercise any good at counting calories ?

I have just had a massive debate about my exercise bike with my boyfriend. How accurate is it? He thinks its way out because the resistance doesn't seem to make any difference.

His argument is that I can spend hours on the exercise bike without sweating and puffing (I do alot of cycling), while he pants and puffs while running on the treadmill.

I would be glad to hear your opinion on it. What do you think ?

I had the same problem. I could do two different exercises and get the same amount of calories burned - only the first exercise would exhaust me and the second exercise would be a piece of cake.

I ended up buying a heart rate monitor that counts calories burned. I've been addicted to it ever since.

The counter on our exercise bike gives me more calories than my HRM so I go with the HRM figure; they're not very accurate in my experience I'm afraid x
