Hi. I'm still pretty new to this but I am wanting to get real lean and toned. I know it is going to be a lot of hard work but what kind of work out do I need to do? I've heard I need to eat a lot too to build up muscle. Any advice would help. At the mo I do 40-45 mins of cardio in the mornings 4-5 times a week and about 20 mins of 30 day shred to start me on strength etc.

Anyone have advice from their own journey to toned and muscular??

Starting a beginner's strength training program is the way to go. Try getting the book "starting strength," and/or googling "stronglifts 5x5"

    This is good advice!!
I've heard good things about both those programs, and as a beginner that sort of thing is great as you just follow the program, no need to make your own up to get results

Also, if you are just starting out, you probably won't need to eat in a surplus to gain muscles (newbie gains etc are common) However, once you get more advanced, you may find the only way to build muscle is by eating more (in a surplus) You will gain fat as well as muscle, but then later on, you go back to a small deficit to lose the fat, and maintain the muscle gained. I did the gaining myself last year, and now focused on losing the fat.
